Walter Hill's cult hit about street gangs in New York is a gritty but often silly action movie that actually doesn't have much action but it packs a distinctive comic-book vibe blended in 1970s style that keeps you entertained. In fact, if you watch the director's cut, it actually pans in and out of frames like an actual comic book. The campy acting, the costume design, and the colorful cinematography reminds audiences that this is not meant to be taken seriously and it's all the more fun for it. Although the protagonists have a strong rapport with one another and remain likeable, it is David Patrick Kelly steals the the show as the weaselly villain that sneers "Warriors...come out to play!".

Stilisiert

Our Daily Free Stream: Walter Hill - The Warriors.

Warriors come out to plaaay.

An actually fast-paced, entertaining, late 70's b-movie. Really there was nothing to complain about from this film as long as you weren't expecting the film to change the world. It's about a street-gang, The Warriors, who are framed by another rival gang, The Rogues, for killing the Cyrus, the leader of the largest gang in the city. They must fight to get back to their home turf, Coney Island. But, a hit has been put out on them and they must fight their way back.

The acting is about what you would expect, no Oscar winners here. But it's really well paced, only 90 minutes long. It's got a killer soundtrack, it reminded me of 2011's Drive, but not as campy. This music had some darker undertones. Not quite as neon-toned as the score for Drive, which was set in California, not New...

"The Warriors" by Yojimbo

When a charismatic leader is assassinated while trying to unite the warring gangs of a near future New York City, The Warriors are framed for his murder and they must fight their way across the city to reach the safety of their home turf.

This comic strip thriller from XY chromosome-pleasing action aficionado Walter Hill is far more about attitude than content. Looked at objectively it is largely plotless - the story is essentially just a long chase through the darkened city - there is literally zero attempt at visually representing the sci-fi aspect, and the dialogue and performances are rather amateurish. It has become something of a cult classic however thanks to the combination of an inventive soundtrack and the iconic costume design of the various gangs who all have their own dist...

I agree with what the other two users have said. It's a cheesy cult classic, but a good movie nevertheless. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the damn thing. lol.

There is an all-female gang in The Warriors, so it's not misogynistic.  I wouldn't say being female automatically disqualifies you, however, being against totally cheesy cult films would stop you. I thought it was pretty good, in that totally cheesy kind of way.

It is the start of cheesy 80's classics (even though it was 1979). I liked the movie but I also liked a lot of bad movies like it.

Wow this movie looks really bad to me. Is it because I'm female?
