Not even in the same league as the first 2, but this isn't a bad film by any means. I strongly disliked the cgi in this film. Honest to God, the alien looked like a cartoon running around; it really took away from the experience. Still plenty to enjoy here though.

This third part of "Ripley's great adventures!" is kind like Metallica's Reload. Now, the only objection coming from me is the use of early CGI in some of the scenes. I saw it bursting from that dog, bursting from that other animal... It is not that important. The prisoniers play is good, it sticks. Back to one alien, Newt dies, Hicks is dead, and this is the trick that makes it a sequel more then anything: it is a science-fiction horror trilogy! Scary, scary, scary!

Underwhelming third entry to the 'Alien' series. Too slow paced and a few lackluster appearances of the new alien.

Alien 3 is appropriately dark and brooding, but the plot is so standard and is presented in such a ho-hum manner, that it's hardly as scary or intense as its predecessors. It's not a mess of a film (see any Alien film after this one), but it is pretty boring.

Not as good as Alien and Aliens but the third installment turns this franchise into another direction which I felt gave a solid ending to such a fantastic heroine.

Alien 3 is nowhere near as good as the previous two, but a bad film this certainly is not. It was molested by the studio system and Fincher is right to have stepped away from it, but all in all, its watchable. It has that dark Fincher style he's known for, and it shines through. Don't be put off by its reputation.

Alien 3 is boring and cliche. There's no thrill whatsoever.

Action: 1.5/3 + Comedy: 0.5/2 + Good vs Evil: 0.5/1 + Love/Sex: 0.5/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 + Plot: 1/1 + Music: 1/1 = 5.5/10 or 55%. Alien 3 attempts to expand the monstrosity of the species by making it a metaphor for the aids virus and it fails badly. It continues the timeline of the first two movies by essentially forcing the viewer to accept that all the effort of the escape and survival in Aliens was for nothing. Weaver does deliver her typical heartfelt and poignant character of Ripley, which is the lone bright spot amongst Fincher's enormous directorial blunders and seemingly indifference to the importance of the franchise.

Alien was scary. Aliens was visionary.... I wish they would have stopped there.
