Amazing Reboot

Jrmovielover - wrote on 06/17/2013

The beginning of this movie may have been the 10 minutes that changed the Trekkie universe forever. With the death of James Kirk's father George, there opened up a door to a whole new universe for director J.J Abrams to work with. Chris Pine's performance as the captain of the U.S.S Enterprise was one to be respected but not adored. His wit and disregard for authority made him a very interesting character to get behind. The future Romulan antagonist played by one Eric Bana was a respectable villain but the performance felt a little flat. However it was a huge step up from his performances in Troy and The Hulk. The crew of the enterprise were all well suited for their roles. Anton Yelchin(Charlie Bartlett, Charlie Bartlett) Zoe Sadana(Natiri,Avatar), Simon Pegg(Shaun, Shaun of the Dead), …

Simply Exhilarating

One word: Awesome. I can't believe I loved this movie so much. I've never seen a Star Trek episode in my life, and I had never seen a Star Trek movie. I barely knew who Spock was. And yet, I found Star Trek to be a perfectly satisfying and exhilarating experience.

Star Trek is the story of James T. Kirk and Spock, two seemingly unconnected beings, that find their stories intertwined when both find themselves aboard the USS Enterprise in order to battle the story's villain, Nero, who threatens to destroy many plants in a dramatic act of vengeance.

There's so much that works in this movie, it's hard to know where to start. The action scenes are always fun. Even suspenseful at times, Star Trek boasts a perfect blend of space flights and individual combat. But the key here is that Star …

"Star Trek" by Yojimbo

The classic 60s TV series gets a big budget re-boot and sees the original crew of the starship Enterprise come together for the first time. I was actually looking forward to this film as I grew up with Shatner and co and thought the time was right, especially considering the success of the BBCs recent re-boot of the British equivalent, Doctor Who. In fact a few years previously, Doctor Who went through a similar process starring Paul McGann, but this project was in retrospect a total misfire; although McGann made a perfectly adequate Doctor, the whole approach was wrong. Instead of trying to capture the essence of the show, it uneasily combined a load of hardcore fan-pleasing yet irrelevant continuity and dumbed down kiddie-pleasing action and special effects and it just didn't work. …

A Reboot Worth Seeing

Captain’s log: Star date 62850.5. The Federation has returned to the big screen yet again to the amazement of all but the most hardcore Star Trek fans. This current course has taken us well beyond the known limits of any franchise or character in cinema history. The latest submission, simply titled ‘Star Trek’, is nothing short of a reinvention of the vehicle originally envisioned by Gene Rodenberry. Being the eleventh feature-length film based on that original TV series; you’d think that all of the possible story lines had been exhausted. The last offering in 2002, ‘Nemesis’, did just over $43 million at the box office (American receipts) – lowest of all the preceding Trek films; a strong indicator that most folks were Trekked-out. Yet Paramount saw fit to gamble one more …

Kirk becomes Captain while his wife gives birth to a boy, and names him Jim. Jim Kirk meets Uhura in a bar, which gets into a fight and in the end is being recruited in the Starfleet by Captain Christopher Pike . Jim meets Leonard McCoy in a flight. Kirk explains that a “lightning storm” is an attack based during his childhood; Nyota Uhura backs it up with a report. The Enterprise arrives at Vulcan to find the rest of the fleet destroyed and while the Narada drills into Vulcan's core. A supernova needs to be destroyed. Nero becomes successful in destroying the planet and tortures Pike for earth’s coordinates. Spock loses his temper and Jim takes over as the captain and directs the ship.

So many going on with only two character developments presented. pace and direction …

a nice way to start up the series again

Drive-In Massacre - wrote on 01/15/2010

Yep, so I guess this is the new champion among fans, critics, and movie-goers alike. It is very good; one of my top 10 films of 2009, and a nice way to start up the series again, but as you can see I personally don't feel it's hands-down, the undisputed best film of the series.

I must admit it's nice to see how they adapt everything and see what they did to each character, as well as seeing which actors were picked, but it's obviously an element that draws you right out of the story. If you've seen anything Star Trek, you find yourself coming out of the story and paying more attention to how they changed the characters. In fact, the two things that distracted me the most were; the interior of the Enterprise, which simply just hurts the eyes; it looks more like the inside of some sort …

Star Trek fans, and by that, I mean those truly invested in the series, you have no one to blame but yourselves. In short... trekkies, this is your fault.

Whether that's good or bad is up to debate, but it's still your fault. I happen to feel the series is all the better.

Okay, so what I am I talking about? I mean the absolute necessity for the "Star Trek" franchise to be liberated from underneath the weighty scripture you've spent a lifetime memorizing. You created a world where any film crafted to satiate your rabid need for Star Trek was doomed to failure as it's torn apart in message boards and conventions across the world because the nacelles were flickering at a frequency inconsistent with operating at warp speed. Or some other ridiculous nonsense, I don't know... I'm …

Star Trek (2009) Review

Myviewing - wrote on 12/01/2009

This movie is intended to be a reboot of the franchise by going back to the roots that made Star Trek what it was, and offering a totally new origin story for the classic 1966 series. This much is certain, after 7 years of all but losing its credibility, this was a "do or die" scenario for the series. This would either be the final nail in the coffin, or the kick in the rear that it needed to get back on course. What I'm really, really, pleased to say, is that J.J. Abrams chose to give the series the later option. I say that's a good thing because J.J. has set up a universe for a promising new beginning with the movie.

The movie is something spectacular for sure, be it in terms of a visual feast for the eyes or someone looking for a great 2-hour time killer with a need for action or …

Masterpiece recreation of original series.. WOW!

I remember watching Kirk, Spock and McCoy when I was a young boy sat on the carpet in our living room at the feet of my father, I loved it, every week it was a new tale of how the crew of the enterprise took on new dangers and met new races of people on strange planets. I remember vividly the Carbon based life form in one episode and the Tribbles that ate the poisonous grain giving away the sinister Klingon's dastardly plot in another but above all this, it was a tale about a group of friends dealing with each others emotions in different stressing circumstances and situations. This is something that was lost a little when The Next Generation came along, don't get me wrong though, I liked TNG a lot but it never impressed me as much as the original series mainly due to the fact that it …
