A little overbearing at times, but it's spectacularly stylish, and it's made more appealing by its blend of modern pop music and its period piece setting.

The film is about a writer falls in love with a prostitute as he tries to write a song for the duke who becomes jealous of the love affair and tries to put an end to it. This movie was messy and annoying. The songs in the film are random to me and the movie is like a fairy tale gone wrong.

Finally got a chance to rewatch this, and I loved it even more this time. What a film! No director has a signature touch like Baz Luhrmann, and Moulin Rouge! lives up to that with it's grand scale, elaborate sets, glamorous costumes, and unique music. Kidman and McGregor both give great performances; Kidman deserved an Oscar for Best Actress but was only nominated. A truly rewarding film experience.

Visually exhausting but a good story was there. Enough entertainment and good performance by Ewan McGregor.

Moulin Rouge is a beautiful and inventive film that tells a poignant love story through the use of a menagerie of visual medium. The blend of contemporary songs with Victorian visuals is brilliant and the film is vibrant and moving as only Baz Luhrman can create.

Elaborate eye popping visuals and rapid music-video style editing can't hide the fact that there is no real movie here. The songs don't fit anywhere and the script is held up by crutches made of stock cliches. The performances may be over-the-top and energetic, but they still come off as boring.

The only good things about this movie were the imagery and songs. The plot was very poor. And, in my opinion, the plot is usually the most important ingredient in making a good movie.

I really loved this movie! The shock of hearing Ewan McGregor's amazing voice was enough to make this an absolute favorite.
