It never gets too corny, unlike most modern vampire stories, and it's both darkly dramatic and comical.

Adapted from Anne Rice's long running novel series, director Neil Jordan lets the blood and gore run rampant as much as the lusty sensuality and lush scenery. Tom Cruise is off as ageless vampire Lestat but he's not slouching. Brad Pitt fares a tad better as the newly minted vampire Louis who is torn over the tremendous moral implications with killing people to feed on their blood. The standout is a young Kirsten Dunst as the wily and bratty vampire child Claudia. Its ott style is not always as effective as it aims for this timeless epic tone. But it's not holding anything back for an R rated Gothic horror film and that's always worth seeing.

A good vampire film featuring "The" A-list talent of the time, Slater, Pitt, Cruise...Quite an interesting take on the vampire myth. I'm not sure I like the liberties taken by Anne Rice, slightly changing the rules for killing a vampire, basically, you can't, unless you burn them or expose them to sunlight. The sets are fantastic, (Dante Ferretti and Francesca Lo Schiavo were nominated for Best Art Direction and Set Decoration at the Academy Awards), as is the cinematography. Really a interesting film that keeps you entertained throughout.

To bad that Dracula did not do a cameo in the movie.

The setting, production design, and gothic style of this film are all awesome. Some of the vampire scenes, however, get melodramatic and bring the film down into campy territory. It's interesting that Kirsten Dunst, as a creepy child vampire, gives possibly the best performance of the film. Kind of cool, but hard to take seriously.

Amongst all the vampire flicks that scour and scourge our planet (especially with those dreadful "Twilight" flicks), Anne Rice's "Interview With the Vampire" is a stunning first-rate above-them-all thriller that tops even John Carpenter's wily characters. "Interviews" is a stunning, hypnotic tale of a young man who becomes a vampire against his will and hungers after guilt, while all the while being seduced into the lifestyle by two thirsty masters. A powerfully beautiful cast that includes Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Antonia Banderas, and Kirsten Dunst. A great directorial achievement for Neil Jordan and beautiful writing from the Queen of Scream: Anne Rice.

This was my first R-rated movie and I was probably too young to see it!! Louis: So you want me to tell you the story of my life? Ok very well then, just beware.. there may be a ruthless killer hidden under my childlike appearance, very much like Kirsten Dunst's character Claudia... This movie starts off with (Brad Pitt) telling Louis' story to reporter (Christian Slater), ...guilt-ridden and seductive to perfection. Ann Rices ingenious writing is depicted magnificently as the sin unfolds with Tom Cruise as Lestat and Antonio Banderas as Armand. Lavish Love and deep regret flood this drama and leave us with the empowerment of pure humanity.
