Robert De Niro terrorizes Nick Nolte and his family in this remake of the 1962 thriller. De Niro is playing a cartoon villain but it’s a frightening one that’s cunning, depraved, and sadistic. The musical score is memorably chilling. The climax on a houseboat that’s slowly wrecked by a storm is abit over the top.

Now I've never seen the original "Cape Fear," but Martin Scorsese's version is unremittingly savage.

Fourteen years ago public defender Sam Bowden his evidence from his client Max Cady, a rapist, that could have acquitted him. Now, a just-released Cady, smarter, stronger and more psychotic, is ready to take revenge against the attorney and his family. This movie is not the best Martin scorses movie but it so is not his worst, the movie had a really good cast and Robert De Niro was one scary creep.

Compared to the original, this is an unnecessary and often silly retelling. Scorsese goes for the atmospheric touch, but a lot of the acting, lines, and action come off as campy and unconvincing. Robert De Niro dressed as a woman is funny, rather than scary, as intended.

This was a good remake. De Niro steals the show as an awesomely creepy villain.

Such a powerhouse casting with Nick Nolte (Sam Bowden), Jessica Lange, Gregory Peck, Juliette Lewis and Robert De Niro as the deranged Max Cady. The flow of the story was continuous and score brought more edge to the film. A minute concern I had was Cady's strength in enduring pain, which kind of removes the realism of the film. Sometimes the invincibleness of the character was too much. The script was descent, not one of Scosese's best thrillers, it did however, deliver the scary moments of a mad man.

Al-Qaeda pilots have a greater sense of subtlety than the writers of this grandiose remake of the 1962 Gregory Peck film. Scorsese has made some truly contemptible films since his success with the masterful 'Goodfellas', but this near unmitigated disaster really is the most acridly vaudevillian of the lot. Thankfully, though it is hyperbolic and bereft of inspiration, supporting work from Robert Mitchum and Joe Don Baker spare the film from being cast into Scorsese's twilight Gehenna. Ultimately, the only thing Cape Fear ever really led to was a ravine.

Scorseses directing choices (even the over the top ones) make this movie pretty unique. Robert De Niro is very convincing and scary as the revenge thirsty ex-con. Also Juliette Lewis fills the screen with her charisma.

Wow! DeNiro is so scary in this. Lewis does a great job as the daughter. Not as good the second time because the shock-factor is gone but definitely worth seeing once.
