Michael Moore: "If you were to talk directly to the kids at Columbine or the people in that community, what would you say to them if they were here right now?"

Marilyn Manson: "I wouldn't say a single word to them I would listen to what they have to say, and that's what no one did".

Bowling for Columbine is a documentary about the gun Violence in America is shown as Michael Moore looks for causes and answers from some of America's top opponents of gun control.

Bowling For Columbine is one of best documentary's I've seen in a while. It's both unique and interesting with it's powerful look on gun violence in america and the Columbine shooting back in 1999. All this is shown in different type of tones, you got a brilliant sense of humor, a strong statement and the truth. …

Remember when Michael Moore made good movies?

MIchael Moore's best documentary film which in light of recent events such as Sandy Hook, Trayvon Martin, Aurora, and so many other horrible shooting incidents have only made it so much more important since its initial release.
What is most interesting about "Bowling For Columbine" is that despite its obvious political agenda (GUN CONTROL!) which Moore himself is open about from the beginning, the movie does not find any easy solution(s) to the situation. He examines the role played by not only the gun industry but also the media, big business, political activism, high school drama, and psychological phenomena play when it comes to gun violence in America.
If there is one thing that I opposed in "Bowling for Columbine", it was the way that Moore conducted his interview with Charlton …

Bowling for Columbine review

The figure of 11,127 is a staggering stat that would be discussed within the insightful documentary. Michael Moore expresses his background in Michigan, Charlton Heston, Matt Stone, Chris Rock, Marlyn Manson, Colorado and the adverse effects of violence from guns from a myriad of personalities. The people who carry guns mentioned: "Were just concerned citizens." "There are wacko's out there." "If we won't protect our family who will?" Wait until the song It's a Wonderful World comes up for te documented figures of assassinations, murders and funding. The unfortunate gruesome shooting at the Columbine High School, showing footage's of scared students and panicky students calling 911. The 2 responsible have murdered 12 students and 1 teacher because of a legally bought weaponry and …

"Bowling For Columbine" by Yojimbo

Michael Moore examines the social climate which resulted in the massacre at Columbine High School, when two socially awkward students armed themselves with automatic weapons and went on a killing spree. Michael Moore is very much a Marmite kind of film maker; people either love or hate him and his one man crusades against the established way of thinking. I personally applaud his willingness to stand up to those who would suppress the truth to promote their own agenda and let's face it, the American corporate system is the biggest propaganda machine in the world so anyone claiming that Moore is "biased" really ought to be taking a closer look at his opposition. In Bowling For Columbine he surprisingly does not point the finger directly at US gun culture (although there has to be …

take it, spin it, turn it into fear

Michael Moore is certainly not who makes this movie, as he is a little opionated for documentator, his bias outlook is predominant in most of the dialogue. Luckily, there were interviews with Marilyn Manson, two Columbine survivors, and 3 laid back Canadian students to keep this movie from sucking. The awesome true facts certainly didn't hurt either. Charlton Heston is a sick man to ignore Moore's request to merely look at the picture of the first grader killed by another first grader in Flint, Michigan. While I disagree with a lot of Michael Moore's beliefs on gun rights, it shows what kind of scum people put in charge. I don't mean George W. Bush, I love George and Laura Bush very much, and none of the facts in this documentary are a result of them or their action.

Moore's inexperience shows

patjohnson76 - wrote on 07/21/2008

I had never seen Michael Moore's documentary until recently, and I have to say I'm a little baffled at the heaping praise it got when it came out. Maybe it's because, two documentaries later, we've seen Moore grow as a filmmaker. I suppose this had a lot of impact at the time because he was being critical of our country when we were going off to war.

The main problem is that Moore loses focus halfway through. This happened in his follow-up, Farhenheit 9/11, when he lost the film toward the end and just started complaining about the Iraq war. Here, he starts out examining gun culture, but then decides he wants to try and examine what brought us here, so he goes off on tangents about the media, race relations, killer bees...eventually he brings it back with a story of a child …

Bowling for Columbine

I have forgotten how much this film impacted me emotionally the first time I saw it. Watching the actual footages from Columbine was as disturbing the second time around. It still brings tears to my eyes whenever I hear those phone calls from students and teachers as they asked for help. Some people say that Michael Moore is all about theatrics. Well, I think his approach is valid because, to be honest, I don't think a lot of people are moved enough by just mere tried and true facts. Sometimes, you have to push it a bit more, go well beyond the boundaries to get your message across. In this violence-ridden America we live in, a simple presentation is not enough to get people to pay attention. I admire Moore's strategies because a lot of documentaries are afraid to be bold, afraid to be …
