TRON: Legacy

I thought this was pretty good. 2010 was a good year for Disney...Toy Story 3, Wonderland, Secretariat, Tangled, Tron Legacy. They had a lot on their plate, and Tron Legacy did not disappoint.

I want to defend the film first. So what if this has a "video game storyline?" It's about a videogame and an electronic world; I'm really confused as to what else could been expected, the plotline was highly entertaining and I honestly can't ask for much more. The visual effects were STUNNING! Some of the best I have ever seen. I expected that the film would be visually astounding, but I was still blown away. I was truly fascinated by the way this film looked...so cool. I liked the actors, Jeff Bridges is great in anything, and Garrett Hedlund was even okay. Olivia Wilde was nice, too. I'm a …

"Tron Legacy" by Yojimbo

After the events of the original Tron, Kevin Flynn disappears and his rebellious son enters the virtual world two decades later to find his father. The original Tron was a visually ground breaking film with an fun messianistic plot revolving around a population of personified "programs". Tron Legacy is more an update than a sequel and visually at least, they've taken the idea and ran with it to glorious effect. They've essentially Matrixified the digital world which gave the director room for some visually eye boggling set pieces including the familiar light cycles, disc duels and now light fighter jets. It takes a lot of cues from old school sci-fi, including 2001, Star Wars and even Flash Gordon and at one point even directly quotes kid's classic War Games. The plot is a little …

Kevin Flynn, software engineer and the CEO of ENCOM International disappears. Before his vanquishing, he promised his son Sam that he would take him to the Grid. An ENCOM executive Alan Bradley, Kevin’s friend, informs Sam that he received a page. Kevin – “You're messing with my zen thing, man.” “The thing about perfection is that it's unknowable. It's impossible, but it's also right in front of us, all the time.” “Some things are worth the risk.” “I screwed it up, chasing after perfection, chasing after what was right in front of me.” Symbolism's of appreciation, change, imperfections and tampering were exhibited. The special effects, pulsating and riveting soundtrack with the action sequences were fantastic. Tron: Legacy is a good sci-fi filled with various …

TRON: Legacy

The original 1982 TRON was definitely a landmark film. It was the first ever to feature complete CGI landscapes as a backdrop for the then state of the art light cycle chases and disc wars.

TRON: Legacy is remarkably not a reboot, but a sequel, making it probably the most belated sequel in all of film history. With such a long period between the two films, there was quite a substantial risk undertaking this project. There was a chance most people either forgot the original, in which case Legacy would merely confuse, or the visionary original that perplexed audiences in 1982 wuld have a similar outcome for the new one.

Joseph Kosinski helmed this sequel starring Jeff Bridges, who returns as the tech-savvy computer programmer Kevin Flynn, now trapped in The Grid, a world inside the …

[update] I saw this again on Blu-ray on a big screen. Still as good as the first time I saw it, maybe even better. A great movie. Much like A.I. I am saddened by some of the negative reviews.

I am not a huge fan of the original but the world that was created seemed like something only George Lucas could create. Not true. Tron: Legacy is so much better than the original in almost every way (ok, maybe it is not nearly as creepy and cult like). I commend Disney for pulling it off. They took another chance with this one and succeeded.

The music was incredible, the scenery was amazing, and the acting was superb. The story lacked any originality, but who cares! Despite the simplistic story, I felt the movie itself was very complex and full of detail.

The SFX were done very well. Some …

TRON: Legacy review

As human beings fascinated by film, chances are we are all indoctrinated by Disney at one point in our lives. It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of how. Some of us may have grown up on the cla ssic films, became fascinated with newer ones, some however have dabbled in the more obscure parts of Disney. One of those frontiers is the milestone in computer generation filming that is TRON. Released in 1982, TRON is isn't really a work of Sci-fi widely known for its story but being one of the first films of its kind to use computer generated imaging. It in fact inspired John Lasseter of Pixar fame to see the potential within this subject. Whether or not the story was anything deep or too ahead of its time or anything of the sort is quite up for debate, I have my own theories but that's …

TRON: Legacy basically has the same plot as it's predecessor 28 years ago: people are trapped on the grid and need to find a way out. However, the effects are so exhilarating that story quite frankly doesn't matter. Sure, there's some clunky dialogue and times where you should just turn off your mind and watch, but wow, what a ride it is. As much as the 3D craze has annoyed me lately, this is a film that DEFINITELY should be seen in 3D, and if you have the IMAX option, take it, because there's nothing like watching a light chase with Daft Punk's score booming from the speakers.

Also, Jeff Bridges is quite good. Not only does he play the wizened Kevin Flynn with authority, but his dual role as the villainous CLU is great as well. He pulls off two distinct characters so well that at …
