In theaters, this movie really got to me. It was suspenseful and the 'found video' was effecting in striking fear. At home it is hard to get the same result on the small screen. It is unfortunate because this movie is very very cool.

I should note that the first time I saw this movie was in a midnight screening, full of screaming fans and loud noises, and I think that this is the ideal way to view the intense spectacle that is Cloverfield. Matt Reeves and JJ Abrams have made a film that rests at the upper crust of found footage films. It's charming at the right moments, goes the right lengths to establish its characters, and features an immediate immersion into terrifying and intense scenarios. The alien invasion plays out a bit scarier when you don't get a full glimpse of the monster, but the film is one tense adrenaline-fueled scene after another.

The advertisement was better than actually watching the movie. I think the catastrophe parts were good, but the camcorder thing I'm not liking.

A movie event, Cloverfield was a film hyped up by a clever and canny marketing campaign. Billed as Godzilla meets the Blair Witch project, Cloverfield simply takes the old Giant Monster attacks New York concept and runs with it to an incredibly effective degree. Intentionally shaky camerawork gives the movie a documentary type feel even though you can't quite believe what you are seeing as real, the effect is startling. Tense, Innovative and exhilarating, there is little time to catch your breath. Cloverfield traces its origins back to the experimental monster films of the 50s yet has its feet firmly in the technologically advanced 21st Century.

Better than I thought it was going to be, but still not classic or anything. I kept thinking why didn't the camera run out of batteries, and how was everything so perfectly edited. But that was part of the appeal. It just could have been that random.

I will not say that this was a good movie, but I will say that this was an entertaining and interesting film and one of the most innovative films of its kind since "The Blair Witch Project." I really liked the fact that it was so absolutely intense and you don't actually need to know everything to be startled. Great entertainment, if not for the whole unbelievable thing.
