While the cast is nearly identical to the original cast, the film is not as satisfying. IT's just macabre enough to be passable.

Despite bouts of dullness during the second act, 'The Addams Family' is for the most part a witty and macabre fun house with some beautifully timed one-liners and excellent performances. The photography by Owen Roizman (easily one of my favourite cinematographers) is suitably dreary.

From what I can remember, it was an average movie. The best parts of it was with Christina Ricci's character. She was funny.

The Addams Family review

Freaky and at times funny characters with a catchy soundtrack and lush set-pieces. A peculiar family consisting of Gomez Addams (Raúl Juliá), Morticia (Anjelica Huston), and children Wednesday (Christina Ricci) and Pugsley (Jimmy Workman). Abigail (Elizabeth Wilson) her son Gordon (Christopher Lloyd) try to fool the family and making him look like Fester, a brother who had a conflict with Gomez. Best line: "People change." from Margaret, who goes out with cousin "It." Wednesday and Morticia were the only likable characters. Effects look dated and screenplay could have been improved to make it more engaging. Best scene was the gory play of Pugsley and Wednesday. The Addams Family is a fair comedy about poor motherly parenting, deceit, transformation and loyalty to family.

The "Addams family" are, shall I say a "unique" family. They live in a rundown, old house which might remind you of the house in the classic movie Psycho. The head of the household is "Gomez" (the late Raul Julia), his wife, whom he loves passionately, is "Morticia" (Anjelica Houston). Their children, who love to torture each other (literally), are "Wednesday" (Christina Ricci) and "Pugsley" (Jimmy Workman). Living with them are "Granny" (Judith Malina), the family butler "Lurch" (Carel Struycken) and the disembodied hand known as "Thing" (the hand of Christopher Hart).

When he was younger, he had a fight with his brother "Fester" (Christopher Lloyd) and "Fester" ran away to the Bermuda Triangle. For 25 years, "Gomez" has been awaiting for his brother's return.

This movie was huge when it came out! I remember hearing people talking about it for months before hand and weeks after its release. It was one of the early Christina Ricci movies and it helped push her career much farther than any of the other things she had done previously. Christopher Lloyd was magnificent as Uncle Fester! Raoul Julia & Anjelica Houston played the roles of Gomez and Morticia Addams to a point where they were quite reminiscent of the original TV show pair John Astin & Carolyn Jones. Carel Struycken was an amazing as Lurch.
I really enjoyed this film when it came out, and I still enjoy seeing it every now and again when its on TV. Its one that the entire family will enjoy. Adults will remember it from when they saw it when they were younger, or remember the original …
