It flies through its first act, lingers just enough in its second, but overstays in the third. "Doctor Zhivago" is a tad long-winded and shallow, but also magnificent historical epic from the man who made some of the best.

Another film with 'classic' status that I did not care for. An epic told through multiple story lines and played against the backdrop of three different wars. Bloated, over-long and full of characters that I could care less about. It is technically well made and contains some great orchestral music. Still, watching this film felt like a chore.

A classic of cinema from the master of the epic, David Lean. A love story that spans history and politics, brilliantly acted with beautiful cinematography.

KGB Lieutenant General Yevgraf Andreyevich Zhivago (Alec Guinness) searching for the illegitimate child of his half brother. His half brother is poet and Doctor Yuri Andreyevich Zhivago (Omar Sharif), and his mistress Larissa ("Lara") Antipova (Julie Christie) bears a child. The score and costumes was majestic and the cinematography was gorgeous. Only observations this critic had were the length despite the simple premise, too many characters that were not involved with the plot and the back and forth sequences with the war and romance. Doctor Zhivago is not even close to the brilliance of Lawrence of Arabia. A decent romantic drama that deals with loyalty, communism and fidelity.

When the romantic scenes between Sharif and Christie are allowed to smolder, the film is intriguing and quite good. The problem is these scenes are buried amid nearly 3 hours of historical fiction fluff and that slows the pacing and drama of the film down considerably.

Though this movie isn't quite as good as everyone says it is, it's still an ok movie.

I really really really wanted to like this movie. David Lean was the master of epic movies - this one was not mastered. It was way too long. There were some great scenes in the snow and a decent romance. I tried and failed to like it.
