Spoilers alert.. I was truly devastated!! I hate Briony!! How can such a child ruin two lovers' lives just because she's sick in her head!! The fact that they died without meeting is killing me! I read the book but I liked the movie better.. unexpectedly.. :/

A little uneven, "Atonement" tries to be a grand sweeping epic that's just too ambitious for its own good.

The story is about a young girl accuses her sisters boyfriend of a crime he did not commit - which sentences him to years of banishment. This was 2007 movie of the year, the movie is so shocking with the war scenes and the love story between Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.

Perfect! A brilliant film. Great performances from Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Romola Garai, Vanessa Redgrave, but especially James McAvoy who completely carries this film. Breathtaking cinematography. Sweeping musical score from Dario Marianelli. Nominated for 7 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Atonement is one of the best films of 2007.

I don't particularly care for these types of films, but I did like this one. Good romance tale that is appealing to the eyes.

So visually stylized, so thematically rich, it's as if every color, sound and facial expression were choreographed into a pefectly complex film. This would have been my choice out of the Best Picture nominees by leaps and bounds.

I love this film for its ability to operate on two levels - as a poetic portrait of human emotions under the most stressful and taxing of circumstances, and as a superb example of filmmaking (from a relatively young artist.) I, unlike some others, didn't find the Nolan-esque plot twists to be gimmicky and that unbroken Steadicam shot on the beach is art. Plus, this film is about a period of time that fascinates me - when social norms often controlled the responses people were able to exhibit to very real tragedies.

What makes this movie so brilliant is its unflinching ability to show what makes everyone uncomfortable. Not only does this movie have child molestation and the truly spiteful nature of little girls, but also the devestations of war and the disgusting nature of jealousy. What a wonderful picture. Highly recommended.

Wow! This is one of the bests films I've ever seen. The direction and photography are absolutely fantastics. This is pure poetry on screen. The story moves on and you want to see more and more. Just loved it!
