There's a handful of really funny jokes, but the whole thing just isn't up to par with Ferrell's other comedies.

If you are huge into basketball, be it on videos, collecting memorabilia or playing the sport, you would like to try viewing this film for obvious reasons. The humor was there however the unimpressive plot mixed with some fantasy related stuff and odd ball characters just removed its believability. Jackie Moon (Will Ferrell) is a strange person with a bit of a feminine side that plays basketball. The reference of ABA merging to the NBA was nice and all, but it just lacks the impact if based on its entirety. If your in a mood for a basketball flick with a few laughs, this is for you. Just don't think too much about it because its really not that hard to comprehend the goals of Jackie Moon.

Meh - unless this grows on me, like Anchorman, this is a pretty boring comedy. Aside from a few good scenes - bear wrestling, impromptu Russian Roulette, the main bulk of the film was weak.

This movie was not good but not good in a good way. There are plenty of parts that will make you laugh and plenty of quotable lines. The problem is that in the end it lacked any real story, plot or character development. I know those aren't the reasons you rent this movie but you would like to think they could have gotten one of them. Over all I would say rent this one because it will defiantly suck edited for TV!

This was not a good movie. It did have it's funny parts (though they were few and far between). The only reason this movie was semi interesting was because of Will Ferrell. Overall I would say that Will Ferrell 'dropped the ball' on this role choice.

Nothing much going on here, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's enjoyable enough, it's pretty short, and the actors look like they're having a good time. There's a thin plot about an ABA team trying to get into the NBA. Lots of sight gags, one liners, and weird characters to make it a good, one-time-is-enough watch.

Semi-Pro had some funny moments, but a good portion of the movie was basketball, and it wasn't funny, or even entertaining really. Ferrell has some hillarious moments, but most are preceded and followed by genuine junk. It's watchable, but not nearly as ridiculous as previous Ferrell incarnations. It tries to be like his best work yet, Anchorman, but it fails many times. It could be worse, but it could be a lot better.

If you like a good laugh and love Will Ferrell, you'll like this movie. Not a great movie, but a few really funny scenes. The last game at the end of the movie I liked the most, mainly because it wasn't in any previews.

Very few laughs throughout the running length even with an R rating it didn't push any boundaries that usually come with the territory of R rated comedies. A perfect microcosm was the poker scene, where everyone thinks they're funny but in reality painfully not. The plot was typical of most sports movies with more cliches than you can shake a stick at. If Will Ferrell's shtick was getting tiresome a few years ago I don't know what to even say about it now.
