Killer soundtrack, stellar acting, but a bloated plot that meanders more than it tells a story. With a sharper screenplay, this flick could have risen from "sometimes good" to "great."

Very much like being deep inside a beautiful painting from the era, it's choice of color and music is exquisite. Sounds from the Strokes, Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Bow Wow Wow gives this film the edge that puts it on a pedastal so high on Sofia Coppola could achieve. The acting is genius, the people are beautiful. I do believe the real Marie Antoinette would be quite impressed.

If you worship Paris Hilton, you will fetishize this movie. If you believe Hilton will be publically decapitated during the coming revolution, you will wish Coppola spent more time chronicalling the economics of privilege and exploitation, namely Antoinette's role in bankrupting France, and less time masturbating to the princess life=style.
