Silly flick that is fun for kids. Some neat special effects, for the time.

There's a lot of heart to this classic Disney film. Buddy Hackett provides the right level of enthusiasm, given the material, and it's unexpected how much character a car can have...yet Herbie himself is a nuanced character in this film.

A timeless family classic

This is the Disney movie that introduced the world to Herbie, the Volkswagon Beetle with a mind of its own. When Jim Douglas, played by Dean Jones, starts to have a fluke in his racing career he almost gives up hope. He is stunned by a car dealership that is owned by Thorndyke, played by David Tomlinson (most well known as Mr. Banks in Mary Poppins), where he first runs into the famous Herbie. After standing up for the little car, Jim has found that the little car is his for keeps. Jim lives with a Buddhist named Tennessee Steinmetz(Buddy Hackett)who finds a soul in everything. While Jim believes the that it is his talent and the speed of the car, Tennessee believes that the car has a spirit of its own.
