Jodie Foster tries her hand in being Travis Bickle of Taxi Driver. Erica Bain (Foster) tries to avenge the death of her fiancée David. Slowly but surely, she tries to eliminate the wrong doers and reuniting with her dog. If only the score, cinematography and script was better, then it would have been more recognized. Foster's intense performance never disappoints, unfortunately a single screen legend cannot lift the pictures dark theme. It was entertaining but not really for repeat viewings.

What a strange film. Well directed, beautifully performed and yet ludicrous. Even if you accept the extremely dubious premise, the poor sense of logic and detail completely skewer the moral message the script attempts to deliver. You have to wonder what Jodie Foster is doing in a film like this, which is essentially a posh version of Death Wish. To her credit she performs like a real trouper as does Terence Howard. Backstage, Neil Jordan directs with a seriousness at odds with the material.

Jodie Foster goes vigilante.....

Detective Mercer “How could you pull it back together after all that’s happened to you?”
Erica Bain “It’s simple you become someone else….a stranger”
Reminded me of the 1974 Charles Bronson “Death Wish” whereby Jodi Foster's Erica Bain is driven by fear after a sadistic after-dark attack brutal attack in Central Park that leaves her fiancé Dr. David Kirmani (Naveen Andrews) dead and herself in a coma for three weeks. The savage attack has robbed her of her privileged security, peace of mind, and even her pet dog.
Unable to move past the tragedy and growing impatient with the police to find the men responsible, she illegally buys a 9mm handgun to protect herself and get her confidence back to face life on the outside. But one day she's shopping in a store, and …

"The Brave One" by Yojimbo

Jodie Foster is the DJ of probably the most boring radio show in the world and enjoys a picture postcard romance with the perfect man. When he is killed by muggers, she takes her power back by gunning down every bad guy she comes across. Yes, it's Death Wish with a chick. I've never been the biggest fan of Jodie; she's always decent, but never spectacular, and so it is with this one. She does have some very able support from Terrence Howard who once again impresses as the cop who is unknowingly pursuing her, and Neil Jordan's direction is just right; the attack scene is particularly effective, especially the "happy slapping" mobile phone footage which adds a chilling realism to the violence. But I do have some problems with it, and they pretty much all stem from the same thing. The fact …

If You Sit Through This...You're The Brave One

Hey, Bruce Wayne, meet Bernie Goetz. I felt like I was watching Batman Gon' Psycho. Foster's character's name is Erica Bain for a reason--she should be Poison Ivy's maniacal assistant. Jodie foster and her fiancee are brutally attacked in a tunnel in Central Park and the fiancee ends up dying. In response she buys and gun and tries to execute every bad guy in New York. She should go join the WatchMen. This movie tries to create a moral dilemma by creating this vigilante who takes justice into her own hands, but really turns out to be a loose cannon who should be locked away forever. Her actions were laughable and ridiculous. The only "justified" killing was the first one in the convenient store. Had she not shot that man she probably would have gotten shot. He was obviously not afraid …
