If you love Cheech and Chong, then you'll love this movie. It is, by far, their best. The van made entirely of pot is absolutely hilarious! I laughed my ass off the entire time watching this.

Cheech and Chong's Up in Smoke review

Not well directed or even acted, and yet it made this reviewer laugh out loud (especially the "big o" scene and sniffing a white substance called...). It's direction was like a journey instead of a structured plot. Much like an earlier Harold and Kumar or Wayne's World. If only the leads had better character development, meaning how they got to where they were (unless this reviewer missed something or a movie of theirs).
Soundtrack was cool and humor effective, unfortunately due to the abrupt ending, figures with lack of intellect and flow, it comes out as a decent comedy. Overall the film felt like a sitcom instead of a movie. A classic case of the sum of its parts were better than the whole. This critic however can see why it has gained popularity and cult status. Remember wanting to see this sooo bad at the drive in one summer upon it's release back in '78 My father said dont worry u'll get in if you are with your parents (I'm thinking no i wont) sure enough upon arriving at our local drive-in 'Up In Smoke' is rated R so what he decides to do last second is stash me back in the camper on his truck. I jump out of my dad's pick up and race to stow myself away as he proceeds to the ticket booth..Well it seems everyone saw me including most of the employees so it was all a bust. Never ended up watching the flick 'till it was released on laser disc (you remember those old laser disc formatted movies that came in those huge plastic containers and were the size of an actual lp which you had to push them all the way inside the player let the disc fall …
