If the concept of James Bond in space sounds hokey, it's because it is. Regardless, "Moonraker" pulls of its stunt with some entertaining sequences that make it way better than it deserves to be.

This is undoubtedly one of my least favourite Bond movies. Even Roger Moore, who I unashamedly love as Bond, can't save it. In fact, his persona is so exaggerated for this installment that he comes dangerously close to being insufferable. The film does have some positive qualities – the mise-en-scene is lovely and John Barry delivers another superlative score (though his lyrics for the theme song are straight out of a George Lucas movie) – but in the end the whole product amounts to a resigned piece of self-depreciating camp that revels in the fact the franchise doesn't give a damn anymore about telling a compelling story. It is not un-entertaining, but it is embarrassing.

This film sums up all of the reasons why Roger Moore was so bad. Gimmicky, camp and stupid to the point of being a parody of itself. Absolute rubbish.

For one, there is too much action packed into this Bond film which avoids the three-hour-long running time of past entries into the franchise. There's barely enough time for Bond's signature witty one-liners with all the running around the plot (and audience) does and it's exhausting. For two, Jaws becomes almost a cartoonish character in this film and the movie spoils what was a solid villain in an earlier film by giving him a love entrance and having him speak.

It continues the series decline into a mostly self-parody feel. However, Jaws returns and there are a couple of great action sequences.

The cheesiest Bond of them all with Jaws in love and Bond in space. The special effects aren't too special here, but at least you'll have some fun with this Bond outing.

Russia With Love's opening sequence is good, but Moonraker may beat them all. A very underrated James Bond opening, and film.
