"M:I-3" is not only as electrifying as the first two, but also much darker and emotionally satisfying.

R.I.P. Philip Seymour Hoffman. Super spy agent is back again as he tries to protect his girlfriend from an arms dealer who has a way of giving headaches. This movie as action and a cliche villain... nice.

JJ Abrams injects a fair amount of character development into the third Mission: Impossible film, diving deeper than before into the relationships between the spy team. Cruise's relationship with his new wife is one of the film's successful surprises. The action, of course, also doesn't disappoint as explosions and fight scenes abound.

Summer Explosiony Fun. Thanks to J.J. Abrams: franchise redemption after bloody awful MI2. Excellent supporting cast (these movies have to be a team effort), especially cold, malevolent Hoffman.

This seemed to be the strongest of the three Mission: Impossible films, and a vast improvement over the previous entry in the series. The film was a careful balance of action and plot twists, with an actual emotional story driving the film. Kudos to JJ Abrams for rescuing the series. As always, I monitored the fil mfor tobacco use. Only one star (Philip Seymour Hoffman) is seen smoking, though there are several scenes that included tobacco smoldering in ashtrays (especially in China). The film earned a SmokeScreeners rating of 3 Butts. http://tinyurl.com/p3clro

Noisy sequel, devoid of any suspense manages to provide enough escapist entertainment while on screen, though it's never as thrilling as either of the two previous movies. Final Grade: C+

Action: 3/3 + Comedy: 1/2 + Good vs Evil: 1/1 + Love/Sex: 1/1 + Special Effects: 0.5/1 + Plot: 1/1 + Music: 1/1 = 8.5/10 or 85%. Philip Seymour Hoffman upstages everyone and even gets to make Ethan Hunt seem naively stupid. This is the most accomplished of the MI series and is a huge improvement over the Woo atrocity. Nobody seems safe from threat, which is good in action spy motifs, and Abrams provides a strong script with chosen yet potent action sequences.

Philip Seymour Hoffman is outstanding as the bad guy. The action is great and the story good. An excellent recovery from the lousy MI 2.
