When you think of mis-matched buddy action/comedies from the 80's, 'Midnight Run' should be the first movie that comes to mind. A routine plot setup gives way to a good amount of action and funny mishaps. It's a smooth entertaining ride of what you'd expect. The well drawn and acted lead characters, and their conflicting relationship, remain the driving force behind this vehicle. It's the main reason for the film's popular endurance. Their interactions are genuine, rather than the usual hokey schtick found in this sub-genre. A believable bonding that pays off in a satifying conclusion.

Bounty hunter buddy flick. Some good laughs and moments. Much cigarette smoking. Law, crime, action.

Like many great films of the 80's, this film is equal parts crime thriller and comedy. The partnership between De Niro (who is doing some marvelous subtle comedic acting here) and Grodin is what makes the movie work and the touching conclusion the film reaches proves that the characters and plot were well developed. Very fun.
