Fun, action packed retro sci-fi.

Despite a lot of negative reviews from critics, I saw this film when it came out and watched it twice on Netflix. What can I say? It was a fun, old fashioned sci-fi and I had a good time at the cinema watching it. George Clooney is great, as is Hugh Laurie. There are some great performances from actors who I didn't know until seeing this (Britt Robertson and Raffey Cassidy). I think Cassidy nearly stole the show for me. And there were also some great set pieces, namely the end battle with the robots. That was pretty cool. And of course, there are top notch visual effects to accompany the cool action scenes and set pieces. The storyline was effective enough to carry the weight of the visuals and action set pieces. And that score. Michael Giacchino is a freakin' genius! And it was …

Worth checking out

Brad Bird, known for directing films such as “The Incredibles” and “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol,” actually declined on the opportunity to helm the next Star Wars film to bring us “Tomorrowland” in May. Regardless of one’s opinion on Bird’s move, his choice to pursue an original project in spite of the glamour that Star Wars offered is an admirable one, and the movie definitely did not deserve its poor box office turnout.

Because of some intriguing concepts presented, it is better to go into “Tomorrowland” with as little knowledge of the plot as possible. The film’s acting is excellent, with great leads in Britt Robertson and George Clooney, and a surprising breakout performance from child actress Raffey Cassidy.

Bird has been known for his …

Feed the Right Wolf

I am a big fan of Brad Bird. The Iron Giant and The Incredibles remain two of my favorite animated films of all time - not to mention his indelible work on The Simpsons. According to IMDB, Bird turned down directing Star Wars: The Force Awakens in order to work on Tomorroland - that is how much he cared about this project. While there is plenty of magic to be had here - the film tires too hard to deliver its message (again and again) and even thought the message is positive, it still feels like a weird fit for the movie.

But let's start off on what is good - the film looks amazing. Tomorrowland itself is a wonder - with jetpacks and robots and monorails - the design is great all around. Likewise, I loved the design of the AA's (Audio Animatronics) from the perpetually-smiling (and …

I thought this Disney SF wasn't so bad as I heard.

"If I was walking down the street and I saw some kid with a jet-pack fly over me... I'd believe anything's possible. I'd be inspired. Doesn't that make the world a better place?"

Worldwide, there should be an obligation for doom-sayers, negativists and pessimists to watch this film. I'm sure it won't make them happier, because most of them are hopelessly lost and trapped in their negative spiral. But maybe there will be a few individuals who'll understand the message of this action packed futuristic Disney movie. The message that positivism and optimism are better features to make a better world out of the present world. Perseverance and self belief will make you reach your goal. Such optimism luxuriated in the sixties. Because of that optimism progress was possible and the future …

Not bad, but well short of Bird's animated efforts

Yet another Disneyland attraction has yielded a feature film in Brad Bird's "Tomorrowland." This is Bird's second foray into live-action filmmaking and while he has proven he knows what he's doing in this realm, he hasn't quite been able to match the brilliance of his animated offerings. This is a great-looking science fiction film with a creative premise and good talent in front of the camera. The visuals are, at times, nothing short of stunning. The plot is really interesting and suspenseful for the majority of the film but somewhat loses its way in the third act as it sputters into a pretty cheesy and heavy-handed conclusion. That being said, this is an uncommonly fresh and original effects-driven film and is worth a look despite its flaws.

Tomorrowland is a movie of hope, a movie that shows better future with advanced technologies, advanced communication systems, navigation systems, time-travel etc. all that we have seen in multiple movies before.

Tomorrowland has excellent visual effects and the future is convincingly shown on screen. The special effects to show a futuristic earth is outstandingly done and you end up believing that such things are possible and may exist in future.

The pace of the action is also good and keeps you at the edge of your seat whenever it is happening on the screen.

However the most important department – “Story” seems to have been overlooked and you won’t take time to realize this.

I Sure As Hell Hope For A Better Tomorrow

Brad Bird, a very good filmmaker, directed "Tomorrowland," a boring movie with a boring message that is pounded over the audience's head over and over again. I liked the characters; I thought they had some good energy and humor. There is one shot that showcases Bird's true strengths as a filmmaker, and that is a tracking shot following our hero as she is introduced to the wondrous Tomorrowland, as we are in that moment. Otherwise, "Tomorrowland" employs heavy earth-bound exposition, throwaway plots and murky confusion, all of which easily loses the viewer's attention as it continues to ramble on and on to its disappointing final act.

I am all for original work, and "Tomorrowland" stands as an original film with good intentions. I just wished this film wasn't such an ordeal to sit …

A nice turn to a What IF

Imagine a world where the brightest, smartest, most ingenious individuals were allowed to create and invent without the fetter of oppression or finances or other limitations. What do you suppose that world would look like? Would it be a utopia? A scientific and cultural haven of wonder and amazement? Tomorrowland starts off with this premise being not only feasible but the place exists in a secretly accessed subdimension. The question the movie poses is, with world wide catastrophes becoming more and more probably as mankind ignores the warning signs and does nothing to fix it (global warming, food shortages, water shortages, mass new diseases, nuclear war etc etc.) Is there still cause for hope and dreams?
Frank Walker (George Clooney) is the jaded adult that used to believe, who …

WE GET IT! RECYCLE!

I will first start by saying that this movie is visually fantastic. The issue is with the rest of the film. The writing was just so bad. Never before have I seen what was supposed to be a Disney Kid's movie turn into a boot-camp for recycling. The first 2/3 were good. I enjoyed the adventure and Raffey Cassidy's character was by far the standout of the film, but this movie just throws away the promise and potential it had with the long speech that Hugh Laurie's character had and the over emphasis on changing the world. Which I understand is the premise of the movie, but there was too much of that and not enough fun to the movie. The 1st 2/3 seem like one long chase scene but it was at least fun. That last 1/3 of the film turned the entire movie into one really long PSA commercial. …
