2013's "The Great Gatsby" captures the glamour of the classic book, but none of its soul.

Baz Luhrmann makes The Great Gatsby come alive! The visuals, the costumes, the sets, and the music all bring one back to the Roaring Twenties. The cast is excellent although some are overlooked for reasons I cannot pretend to know why.

I really liked this movie a lot. It was hard to get used to at first, no doubt, but once I got past a few of the crazy scenes, I really gravitated towards the story, how it was told and Jay Gatsby's character. DiCaprio is outstanding in this movie despite what you may have heard. The cast is actually pretty good, even Maguire is acceptable as the Dorky narrator. Highly recommended if you like visual dramas with good music.

I was very surprised by how close the movie followed the novel. there were a few big details not mentioned and the odd fact that Nick was telling his story to a psychiatrist which is NEVER EVER implied or mentioned in the novel. But overall it was a good film and I give it a B. Leonardo DiCaprio was of course phenomenal as usual

Well, it was definitely better than the one made in the '70s with Robert Redford. However, it still wasn't as good as people believe the book is. In fact, the book isn't even as good as people believe the book is. But I digress. It was colorful, fantastic, and relentless in its absurdity. It makes me want to re-read the book to see if I missed something the first time around which caused me to dislike it.

A good, if not over-stylized adaptation of the classic novel. I was unfamiliar with the story, before going in, and I can see some of the literary greatness beneath the weight of this big production. Despite good performances all-around, I only felt the drama shine through in a few scenes. The ending falls short of having a much more emotional impact because of this. If nothing else, watching this film has made me want to read the famous novel.
