Ralph Fiennes updates the Shakespeare play about a proud general (Fiennes) that plots vengeance against his home city for banishing him. His method? By siding with his own sworn enemy (Butler). Fiennes' direction is solid but he lessens the impact of the dialogue and drama with shaky cam and cramped staging. He is very good in the lead and captures the haughtiness of Coriolanus well. The themes feel as relevant today as they did in Shakespeare's era. The first half is more interesting than the second though. It seemed better paced.

Great performances by Finnes and Redgrave, but that´s it unless you really like Shakespeare.

Coriolanus is not for everyone, in fact many people will likely hate it. I can't say I particularly loved the film, but it features many admirable qualities nonetheless. The cinematography is really good. Although it borrows heavily from it's Shakespearean roots, making it hard to understand, the script and solid and the actors deliver it wonderfully. The performances are all top-notch, Vanessa Redgrave in particular is stunning; she steals every scene she's in. If you're a fan of Shakespeare you absolutely must see this, and if you're not, it is still a good film even though it wasn't my cup of tea.

The performances are great - but unless you have an ear for Shakespeare, this is probably not the movie for you. I liked it well enough, but it does take some adjusting to get used to the flow. If you're in the right frame of mind, give it a shot.

Most everyone puts in a good acting effort. I can't say much positive about the rest, though. The directing and editing had me dizzy and confused about the action and story. The fast-spouted 'Shakespear' dialogue only added to the confusion, because I am not used to hearing that type of speech.

Coriolanus is a great soldier of Rome. When he is about to take the consulship of the city, the politician-manipulated mass gone mad at him, betraying and condemning him from Rome. He then joins force with the enemy to take revenge. *** From a Shakespearean story to great actors playing the characters, this film come with excellence. Though the film was not really for entertainment or a mainstream type, this movie was a success on bringing heavy-weighed matter to its viewers. The film itself as a whole may not be that relevant to the current time and that even the resolution of the movie did not come with great impact, still a great job done by the producers and creators of this film.
