Even generations not living in the immediate aftermath of war are sure to be moved by this portrait of soldiers readjusting to their old lives.

An honest look at American issues and the troubles that returning war veterans faced at the time. I found it to be a well-written and acted drama, all about the examination of it's characters and the path laid out before them. I did think it was a bit overlong, but none of the running time is wasted. I even prefer this to 'The Deer Hunter'.

Fantastically acted - the particular plot with the soldier who loses a hand feels extremely contemporary and moving. I actually don't understand some of the hate for this film on this site. It's pretty moving.

I have no idea why people like this film so much. I like Teresa Wright, Frederic March and director William Wyler, however this doesn't work or garner my interest. There are interesting moments, but it never captivates.

This story of three men who return to small town America after fighting in the second world war, each man wounded in his own private way by the horrors he's faced, is filled with so many small heartbreaks. The performances are uniformly outstanding, keeping the movie from ever straying into sentimentality. With a running time of almost 3 hours, it never drags. Every scene feels essential.

This is a very good example of what happens to our soldiers once they come back from fighting, especially after a popular war. Imagine what they come back to now. The three different lives followed well and overall I would recommend this. Amazingly, this movie came out months after WWII.
