Rainn is likable, but the film just goes through the motions. Mildly funny at best.

I think if this film were allowed to be R-rated, it wouldn't have held back on some of the material, but it's still an often very funny "fish out of water" story. Rainn Wilson is the heart of the film, channeling a goofy and immature aging rocker and for those who know the music industry, there are fun nods to some of its nuances.

Better than expected. While it doesn't offer much in the way of new material, Rainn Wilson is well cast and the story is uplifting without being too sappy. It won't move mountains, but it does entertain.

Action: 1 / 3, Comedy: 0.5 / 2, Good vs Evil: 0 / 1, Love/Sex: 0.5 / 1, Special Effects: 0 / 1, Plot: 1 /1, Music: 0.5 / 1 = 3.5/10 or 35%. Comedies are by definition suppossed to be funny. The Rocker is not. While it plays off of modern themes like YouTube and MySpace, the extended jokes from such items are stale and the physical humor Wilson displays is misplaced- the whole project is very poorly direcetd and boring overall.
