The Dark Knight

The Knight glows in the Dark

The best part of the movie is the stellar cast. All except one put in amazing performances. The odd one being Maggie Gyllenhaal. Katie Holmes was not good, but she atleast managed to look good. Gyllenhaal doesn’t look good and she can’t act well too. Heath Ledger and Christian Bale are impressive in their roles, the former stealing the show from the latter most of the time. But Bale does stand out with his intensity throughout the movie. Michael Caine, Morgan freeman and Gary Oldman root the movie with their supporting roles. Aaron Eckhart’s Harvey Dent is the white knight of the storyline who fights crime, staying within the law till the debacle which makes him the Two-face. Christopher Nolan has resurrected a deteriorating …

Batman Begins Review comment

It gets right up my tits when a producer carps on about his or her new film being 'much darker' - and then something like this shows up. Not as gothic as I'd like (I would do it in black and white vintage film stock and set in 1938), it still stays true to the original comic (as if I care) while carving out a stylish niche for itself. Surely after all this fucking about, Chrisses Nolan and Bale have finally defined the Batman to end all Batmans. I always thought Bruce Wayne to be completely …

Casino Royale Review comment

Let me first say, I am a BIG Bond fan and lusted after this film even before it went into production. I lurked on those web-sites that crticised Daniel Craig's portrayal when the trailers came out, defending his acting and looks right up until the day I excitedly ran to the cinema with my mates to see it. And what a disappointment it was! Small and over-muscled, Craig is the most unstylish Bond to grace our screens since Roger Moore and its so obvious that the Broccolis took a long, hard look …

The Dark Knight Review comment

I looked forward to this so much I was desperate to like it. I'd also been swayed by those big budget and box office numbers and that astounding cast (to say nothing of the hype and subsequent awed reviews). But I found the plot too layered and the pacing too busy, the chase sequences and fight scenes lackluster and the dark side/good side emo agonising too much too bear (I hate it in a film where everyone blames themselves for the death of someone when it is glaringly not their fault). I …
