What it lacks in meaningfulness and convincing acting it makes up for with great practical effects and B-movie appeal. "Scanners" doesn't let low budget get in the way of its cult classic berserk psychics horror story.

This movie has a head blowing off and it was awesome. But the movie itself was alright.

Famous for it's exploding head scene, this film is far more restrained than you would think. It's obviously very low budget, and the effects and performances reflect the fact, but it has some interesting ideas and a fine ending.

Maybe I judged this movie too soon.I saw Scanners on VHS at the local Goodwill Outlet store but really had no interest in watching it so I threw it back in the bin.Lately I've been seeing it on the free movie channel so I decided to give it a go &..... It turned out to be an OK movie. It's definitely interesting & something I'd tell whoever to go see at least once. The exploding head at the start of the movie, Wow.That was 1 of the grossest but coolest (I feel wrong for saying that) things I've seen in a Horror flick. The rest of Scanners was solid with alot of really nice special effects. The ending kinda fell off for me but I don't know why.I don't know if it caught me off guard or I just didn't get it.The eyeballs part was gross as well & if you watched this movie, You know what I mean.If …

Freak of nature, born with a certain form of ESP; derangement of the synapses which we call telepathy. - a description of s Scanner. A type of film where the innovative enticing premise is buried by lousy acting and a dull script. This could have been an effective horror but because of its complex intricacies, countless explanations were needed. Lack of interesting figures makes this picture almost unwatchable. If only there were persuasive and likable characters and a bigger budget and time for production, this would have been better. Scanners may not have a high entertainment value with regards to character development/dialogue, it's still one of the memorable works from the master of gore which incorporates themes of technology and morality.
