Another thick slice of Emmerich cheese, best sampled with a pinch of salt. It's clearly ridiculous and only works because it's so tongue in cheek. Watched as a comedy, it's pretty entertaining!

This one just took itself way too serious. Plays like a 'Jurassic Park' knockoff and the effects don't even hold up as good as that film. It's just a dumb disaster movie down to it's core, with no redeeming factors.

A wasted effort to remake the original. First of all Godzilla's image has been changed, secondly the characters seemed indestructible and lastly the dialogue was just awful. So many impossible scenes that make you cringe in disgust as to how they were able to survive a building filled with Godzilla's babies. Lacks the luster of action sci-fi's and just ruins the talents of Jean Reno and Matthew Broderick. This Godzilla deservingly falters.

The only interesting and scary part of this film was the egg nest laid in Madison Square Garden. Everything else is pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo, shoddy special effects, and some forced and sappy romantic moments.

Review - Godzilla (1998)

When a mutant lizard attacks New York City, Dr. Niko Tatopoulos (Matthew Broderick) tries to study the creature and learn how to stop it in the American re-imagining of “Godzilla.”

From the director of “Independence Day” and later “The Patriot” comes Roland Emmerich’s vision of a monster from a movie series he doesn’t even like. What’s more is the studio let him do whatever he wanted with it, thus enraging fans and even non-fans of the original Japanese films.

It’s amazing that some people consider this his best movie when even if they’re right that’s a really bad sign. All of the characters are generic stereotypes, the logic makes no sense, and most importantly, it has a stupid message that seems completely out of place.

I will say that back in 1998, I thought the visuals were i...
