I kept avoiding this because I really did not like Juno, but it almost felt like Juno turned inside out. Instead of perky and sweet and moralistic, it's satisfyingly dark and cynical and almost nihilist.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this film. First, it's written by Diablo Cody. And I'll admit, I'm not a huge fan of her work. Juno, was good, but not great and this wasn't even as good as that film. We're supposed to be sympathetic towards Charlize Theron's character, but how can you? The performances are good, but I just have no feelings towards Theron's character. I think she got what she derserves. And I know 2013 was considered the year that cassettes became popular again, but what new model of car has a tape deck in it? Also, this movie came out in 2011, two years prior.

It's almost like Charlize Theron woke up morning and thought: "I feel like playing a bitch from now on." (YA, Prometheus, SW&H) But, again, she gives a really performance. I personally really liked Young Adult, but like Bad Teacher earlier in the year, this film has sort of a sympathetic message, but the main character deserves anything but sympathy. Regardless, this is a really good film featuring good performances and a witty script from Diablo Cody (Juno).

Surprisingly funny and meaningful. Some Kind of Wonderful like flick but with darker tones. Mavis Gary (Charlize Theron) is a divorced writer who tries to woo back her old flame. She receives an email from Buddy Slade (Patrick Wilson) and his wife Beth's (Elizabeth Reaser) new baby. Plot maybe ludicrous, even the character of Matt Freehauf (Patton Oswalt), still it's endearing qualities are its script and impressive showing of Charlize Theron. Best dialogues were "We just thought it was a nice memory." "It's good to keep those people in your life. The people who really know you best." from Hedda, "Sometimes in order to heal a few people have to get hurt." and "It's really difficult for me to be happy. And then for other people it just seems so simple. I know. They just grow up and …
