It isn't the painfully bad type of movies Eddie Murphy would get stuck making for 10+ years after it, but it's hardly funny enough to recommend.

Witless remake of a witless Jerry Lewis film. Cliched, contrived and desperately unfunny.

Professor Sherman Klump (Eddie Murphy) reconstructs the DNA of an obese person to easily lose weight. He falls for Carla Purty (Jada Pinkett), a chemistry graduate student. Dean Richmond (Larry Miller) has set up a meeting with Harlan Hartley (James Coburn) about the created serum by Sherman. The soundtrack and make-up was entertaining. There were times the dialogue felt sappy. The Nutty Professor is a descent comedy to view to have a few laughs.

Eddie Murphy wasn't in full-on decline here, but he was on the downslide. Murphy just can't equal Jerry Lewis, and this film just doesn't have the "nutty" charm of the original. It wanted to be updated and a bit edgier, but I prefer the wackiness of the classic film over this.

An inspired comedy that only exists to show off Murphy's comedic talent. I did find it quite funny.

Eddie Murphy is charming and this movie definitely displays his comedic range in playing countless characters. However, this Nutty Professor is missing a lot of the goofiness and charm of the original and relies too much on juvenile humor than on the heart of its story.

Of course Jerry Lewis' better. But this one is funny. I liked it. Eddie Murphy has a lot of charming and charisma, as usual.

I am a big fan of the original Nutty Professor. This movie was exceptional in the idea that it worked really well off of what Jerry Lewis had come up with many years earlier in the original film. Eddie Murphy use this movie to catapult him back into the spotlight and it allowed him to take on multiple roles and make them all very funny. This remake of the original is a good tribute to an already amazing classic, and this movie is headed for the classic lines itself.
