An effectively emotional slice of life that's also surprisingly heavy.

Fantastically acted. Loved it until the film decided it wanted to be a revenge story. Still a really good film though.

In the Bedroom is a heartbreaking family drama that feels ragged and real. The anchoring performances of Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson feel believable and powerful because the character reactions don't feel contrived. A tragic, but moving film and one of the best of 2001.

This remains my all-time favorite film. This film penetrates so sharply, so profoundly, that I've seen it at least 20 times! In my view, it's a coming out party for Tom Wilkinson. He is absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Director Todd Field does such a wonderful job arching the story. I especially enjoyed the on-screen chemistry between Wilkinson and Spacek. Their scenes together are both explosive as well as moving. What compliments the film nicely, is Thomas Newman's sweeping score. He really is masterful at capturing 'moods'. This is a must see for any 'real' film buff. A!

Sissy Spacek and Tom Wilkinson are poignant in this film. The best scenes are when they would fight with or without using words. Both cannot be any more opposite on the way they grieve, which made it all the more interesting. Even though the movie is more than two hours long, I was completely drawn to it because it made me root for the two main characters even if they deliberately decide to make decisions that could ultimately corrupt them. Nick Stahl is as charismatic as ever, and I completely believed his characters' amiable nature. This film raises a lot of questions regarding morality and it's worth pondering over even after the credits stopped rolling.

I really didn't find it that appealing.

Not bad for an american movie, but it lacks the power, simplicity and realism of the italian one. Actually I find it a bit overrated. It's a good drama. That's all.

Not too bad. It could have been worse, but let's just say it should not have been nominated for an academy award.
