This is a quiet film that shows two characters trying to figure out how to get out of their relative destructive patterns. Ryan Gosling is magnificent, giving a quiet and thoughtful portrayal of a young, but washed-up teacher. I wasn't in love with the ending, which may be a little too perfect, but the film has some great and moving scenes.

I love Ryan Gosling, but I didn't love this. He did well in this movie, but I think the overall storyline was slow and long. There were some good moments, but that's about it.

Ryan Gosling does an excellent job at making us believe he is addicted to drugs and that he is a good teacher. The story line is above average and pretty fresh. There are several scenes that could have improved pacing issues. Overall good.
