Into Disappointment.

Star Trek (2009) was to me, what a lollypop to a toddler was. It had everything I wanted to see out of a Star Trek film, plus more: anyone could enjoy it for being entertaining, smart sci-fi.

Star Trek: Into Darkness is not the case. It was very heavily focused on many minor aspects of the first one.
Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto are free-flowing once again in their roles. Especially Quinto this time around. A lot of drama was added to the character and all characters in general, and that is both a good feature and a bad one.
You see, this movie passes itself off as an absolute summer movie. And I am totally irritated by the way the film chose to play out. Nothing in this movie is portrayed as promised, Benedict Cumberbatch was good, but forgettable, the story is so generic and easy …

Rousing, space action film.

Shaking stuff! Sparkling chemistry: Spock and Kirk You win me over. If you need a nicely poised space-adventure with interesting twists then, into darkness is a big Yes! Always been a fan of the Star Trek series, here I get a rousing and solid action film. Chris Pine, Quinto and Saldana reprise their role. They are now facing a dreadful enemy Harrison, the deadly Cumberbatch. Harrison kills some star fleet crew members including their general. Captain Kirk and his team are on a mission to catch Harrison. But there is a looming danger ahead. Some surprises ahead! Abrams goes smoother with action meaningful and sensible for the first round. But then when the ultimate twist is given, movie takes a next move. The big space action adventure is solid. Not quite appreciable, but damn good. It …

Star Trek Into Darkness review

It starts with Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) saving a planet. In London, there was a bomb that killed a number of people so a manhunt ensues for John Harrison/Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch). The ability to create tension, comic relief, fantastic plot, screenplay skillful camera direction and visual effects were the picture's highlights. Some insightful lines: “You think you can't make a mistake!" - Admiral Christopher Pike (Bruce Greenwood), "You didn't feel anything. You don't care." - Uhura (Zoe Saldana). "Is there anything you wouldn't do for your family?" – Khan and “It’s nice to have a family.” - Dr. Carol Wallace (Alice Eve). Action sequences were fantastic and the director does a great job with helping the audiences be involved with the …

Friendship and drama aplenty

Star Trek Into Darkness : 3.5/4
This movie is fantastic. It is a good mix of emotion, visual effects, and drama. The thing about J.J Abrams is that relationships always play a big role in his films. Wether it is the rivalry in the 2009 Star Trek or the child friendship in Super 8 relationships are always a driving part of his movies. Spock and Kirk's relationship in Into Darkness is that of friendly rivals. Spock still favors rules over his own welfare while Kirk favors doing what he has too for his friends safe keeping. This leads him to lose his commission because Spock turns him in. Although this leads to a small rift in their developing friendship it never ruins the complexion of the film or causes a major problem. Soon after the death of a certain mentor like figure leads Kirk to …

A Disappointing Sequel

Star Trek into Darkness is the sequel to J.J. Abrams 2009 reboot of the series, and it feels like it. It keeps the pace, the actors and tone of Abrams last “Trek” film.

The only real big difference between this movie and the last is in quality. Star Trek (2009) was a rousing adventure, but the sequel tries way too hard to be the “Dark Knight” of Star Trek, and doesn’t pay enough attention to actually making the characters motivation and plot make sense.

The whole thing has a fast pace and energy to it that makes it difficult to notice on a first viewing, but on repeat viewings the movies plot falls apart into nonsensical nothingness, especially Cumberbatch’s character.

The movies saving grace is the relationship between Kirk, Spock and the other crew members of …

One of Abrams' Greatest Pieces

Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to capture one former member of their organization who holds weapon of mass destruction. The Enterprise and all its crew has to face another action which measures their friendship and ties to each other.

Awesome. Terrific. Brilliant. This film is indeed one of the best movies produced for the past decades. I thought J.J. Abrams has lost his great directing skills when I saw Super 8 (The film wasn't bad but I was expecting more.) The whole picture was a great experience, the thrill, the lovable characters, the smart and intelligent story, and all the executions. The film has so much to offer, not only the effects or visually appealing elements of the movie, but also the quality performances and story. There are several movies which are really pleasing to …

Great but i have loads of questions!!!

Well after seeing the prequel of sorts to this prequel of sorts I fell in love with the cast that portray the crew of the U.S.S Enterprise in their youthful prime. Young Kirk (Chris Pine who is brilliant as Kirk may I mention?) Zachary Quinto is the young Spock and I wont fore mention any of the rest of the cast but let me say they are all brilliant as well.

The thing about Into The Darkness that didn't bother me mind you however I am just wondering what the tie ins to Star Trek 2 The Wrath Of Khan are with the character Khan Noonien Singh (Now portrayed brilliantly by young Benedict Cumberbatch ) I mean will they exile him and his 72 followers to a planet such as City Alpha 5 as what happened during the 60's show episode 'Space Seed' and then finding him and his followers in the …

Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness is wild - the most fun I've had at the movies so far this year. Directed by J.J. Abrams, it's a very well crafted, action-packed, breathtaking adventure film that's terrific entertainment for everyone - whether or not they've seen an episode of Star Trek in their lives. What's missing from J.J.'s Star Trek movies is the logical and thought-provoking ideas, which many Trekkies complain about. I don't really mind that - I just look at his films as blockbusters, and they certainly deliver the goods in those regards.

The first film developed the characters and identified them, explored their interactions and filled them with life. In this sequel, now that we know the characters, we're given more character interaction to enjoy, and it's great fun. The chemistry …

Star Trek Into Darkness

Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) PG-13 Captain Kirk (Chris Prine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the Enterprise crew are sent on a mission to go behind enemy lines. Will Kirk risk his ship and crew to stop a man (Benedict Cumberbatch) that is hell-bent on death and destruction? I am a huge Star Trek fan and I loved the first J.J. Abrams Star Trek (2009) film, that brought a fresh take to this iconic series. But I only liked this film, I didn’t love it. It felt that now that we know the characters and how they relate to one another, that Abrams, the director and the writers, didn’t really understand these characters or about what Star Trek is really about, that humanity can be good and that we can all live together in a world of hope and exploration. I did like the …

A Mostly Logical Sequel

Chris Kavan - wrote on 05/18/2013

This is a good sci-fi movie, but I can't help thinking that Into Darkness is made more for Star Trek fans than the casual moviegoer (at least compared to the first film). That's not to say that a general audience won't appreciated it, I just think all the little references and touches will be lost on the regular populace. Still, this movie succeeds thanks to the characters - especially Benedict Cumberbatch, who presents an amazing villain.

The movie starts off in classic Trek fashion - an away mission going all wrong. The prime directive is being followed... until Spock nearly gets taken to a molten grave. Of course, Spock follows the rules to the letter and gets Kirk demoted - Admiral Pike takes back the Enterprise, but in a surprise move, let's Kirk stay on as his first officer …
