Knowing it's based on a true story makes it all the harder to watch. "Boys Don't Cry" raises an important issue, and makes damn sure you know who the real sick individuals are.

One lesbian girl who dresses like a boy in order to get close to a girl she likes. Okay hands down hilary swank looked like a boy and sounded like a boy.

This movie is heartbreaking to watch, even if you know what to expect. I'm not sure which is more depressing, this movie or the real story that this movie is based on. Hilary Swank does such a fantastic job portraying Brandon that I always forget I'm actually watching her. It's hard not to walk away from this movie hating Peter Sarsgaard and Brandon Sexton III because of how well this movie is done. This movie accurately depicts small-town hatred and prejudice and the deadly affects it can have.

It's often tough to watch, but this is a harrowing portrayal of prejudice and love in a small town world. Hilary Swank definitely deserved her Oscar with a performance that isn't afraid to go to the toughest of emotional places.

Love, tragedy and great performances. Worthy of the praise.

I've read into the Teena Brandon story for quite some time now. The reality is much more shocking and painful than any film that could ever be made, just because it is real. I highly reccommend reading up on or watching one of the many documentaries there are out there. In fact, I think you can watch one for free at fancast. Hilary Swank proves there's nothing she can't do, and Chloe Sevigny shines with near equal luster.

This is probably the best movie about the gay community I've ever seen.

Hilary Swank gives a breathtaking, Oscar-winning performance as the complex Brandon Teena/Teena Brandon and is nearly matched by Chloe Sevigny. This is such a devastating and anger-inducing motion picture and all the more so because it's a true story. One of the saddest movies I have ever seen.

Interesting movie, good, not great. The acting is fantastic, though. The whole process is pretty average done.

While highly interesting, Hilary Swank got the role by lying. I like the Brandon character, even though it was hard to like him, because he lied all the time. grr. Chloe Sevigny's character was very sensitive and the movie has the potential to break anyone's heart.
