Kubrick's fairy tale

I don't blame Spielberg or Kubrick for this movie. Kubrick had a version, a idea to give a fairy tale a twist but he died before he could get it to the big screen, so his long time friend Steven Spielberg tries to make the project that Kubrick couldn't do and the question that I bet was burning inside peoples head that if Kubrick directed the movie would it be spectacular, arty master peace? yes probably, but I honestly won't think it would be his best work, because if you seen the movie than you would have seen the ending and I bet you felt a bit cheated to the ending, and that was Kubrick's idea how to end the film, now imagine if he took control of the whole movie.

A Masterpiece

I remember watching this film when I was about thirteen years old and I instantly fell in love with it. I own the DVD and whenever I watch it with people, they either love it or hate it, so I almost always prefer to watch it alone. Those that belong in the latter category claim that it's unreasonably long, depressing from start to finish, and not having a lot of action scenes (this bit really bothers me). I love this movie because it is a total stylistic hybrid of two of my favourite directors, Steven Spielberg (who provides light and hope) and Stanley Kubrick (who provides edge and darkness). If I were to divide the film into three parts, I would say the first and the third part werw Spielberg's forte.
