Quite frankly, I don't understand how anyone could pay to see this movie. Despite its relatively short run time, it felt like an eternity watching this movie. I must state that I haven't read the book, but I don't see how this flick could possibly do it justice. The dialog was terrifyingly awful (just about the only thing about this movie that can be described as terrifying). The acting was sub par, which is surprising because Jena Malone is pretty decent. The only redeeming quality of this movie was the interesting visual effects. The monster flowers, or whatever they are called, were hilarious, but other than that, I wouldn't even wait for it to be shown on cable TV.

The biggest let down film I've ever seen in a theater.

Although it has a good premise - more original than another lame remake, it's not enough to make it stand out. Everything falls short is almost every aspect, characters, actions, story - nothing ever rises above mediocrity.

Action: 1 / 3. Comedy: 1 / 2, Good vs Evil: 0 / 1, Love/Sex: 0.5 / 1, Special Effects: 0 /1, Plot: 0 / 1, Music: 0 / 1. Overall 2.5 / 10 or 25%, which gets this 1 / 4 stars per my rating formula. This really is a below average outting with nothing truly enjoyable to mention.

Another horror movie that avoids the usual pitfalls of the genre and gets it done right. I have to admit I wasn't expecting much after the trailer made it seem like another monster out to get you movie, but I digress I was pleasantly surprised. It's less about what's out there than the slow psychological effects and breakdown of the group from within. Everyone gives good performances which isn't exactly a staple in horror movies. A lot of movies like this stumble into stupid territory when they attempt to explain all the supernatural happenings, fortunately we get none of that here which would have probably ruined everything.
