Gregory Peck does a good job at keeping viewers' attention in this thriller that has way too many twists and turns. It wants to be Hitchockian but the big mystery is not worth all the misdirects and red herrings. Still, the acting is good from most of the players. Aside from Peck, Walter Matthau is great as an all-too-eager private eye while Diane Baker plays the 'woman of mystery' role well.
