Not an effective musical. Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr) is a teacher who moves to Thailand and meets a n eccentric confident King Of Siam (Yul Brynner). Most of the humor were wonderful but the screenplay often redundant and irritating. Lacks character development for the background characters and history of the king's illness was not exposed. Yul Brynner was just exceptional here and wardrobe was gorgeous. Set pieces were elegant and pacing suffice. Has some timeless songs, themes of slavery, loyalty to a girl and power, King and I is a worthy watch for musical fans.

Everything about this movie was great... except the obvious racism.
