Kenneth Branagh's third attempt at a Christie adaptation is his most assured. Not only is it a compelling mystery, but a moody atmospheric thriller too.

It's the standard formula we've come to expect from Kenneth Branagh's take on Hecule Poirot - with a dash of the supernatural thrown in for good measure, Once again, the cast is solid with Michelle Yeoh, Tina Fey, Jamie Dornan, Kelly Reilly topping the bill. The young Jude Hill is a scene-stealer with his studious seriousness. The setting has just as much character as the actors, and the crumbling Venice mansion is as integral as any of the characters. All in all, another solid outing for the world's greatest detective - we'll see if it's enough for another mystery down the road.

Out of Kenneth Branagh's Poirot films, this is the best one because instead of showing off the star-studded cast, the story feels more personal, limited to one place, covered with darkness and shadows, hidden with secrets, and a haunting past. They are not great movies, but Kenneth Branagh's charming portrayal of the French Hercule Poirot and his prominent Mustache make these watchable. I don't mind if they decide to make more of these movies. They are getting better with each entry. Some great shots and camera angles, which I can tell had a lot of thought and purpose behind them. So yeah, this is the best one.
