Surprisingly Good

I feel a little weird about Blue Is the Warmest Colour, but it's not specifically that one film in particular. I think I feel a little weird about sex scenes in films full stop. On-screen sex belongs in porn movies, as far as I'm concerned, and not in 'legitimate' filmmaking, but I suppose that's my issue, and I shouldn't let my prejudices get in the way. So, having established that my first point in this review is irrelevant, we'll move on.

Apart from my awkwardness concerning sex scenes, I have to say that I really like this film.Unlike others of its ilk (that's bittersweet romantic dramas) it is very astute in its observations of the human condition in general and first love in particular.

While the script is very good and accurate, in terms of the picture it paints of the utter...

Erste Liebe

A great movie that's worth checking out

This is one of those movies you should never watch with your parents because it will be awkward and you don't want them to question you about it.

The story to Blue is the warmest Color is about a young lesbian couple from inception all the way through to one possible end.

Wow this took me a while to get around to watch this movie I mean originally I was going to watch this back in 2013 but at the time I was busy and after a while I forgot about the movie, until this year I finally watched it and wow let my just tell you that this movie is brilliant and I'm not just saying that because of the sex scenes, I really do think this is a real and honest look at young age sexuality.

Adèle Exarchopoulos and Léa Seydoux both give Oscar worthy performance in this movie that's how good they...

I know it is kind of irrelevant to talk about it now, almost a year later, but something kept drawing me back to it, and something made me want to talk about it madly.

I found it a lot more fascinating the second time around, because I accepted it, not for being 'that three-hour French lesbian movie that won the Palme d'Or', but actually as a movie that had a story to tell about life and living and consequences and lifestyle choices and how these little coincidences and decisions can make big differences in your life.

The movie is incredibly French, but that doesn't say a lot, does it?
It's gentle, it's hard-hitting, it's understated and explicit, a wonderful bundle in one.
I mean, the simplistic, yet astonishing style is a very good example of modern filmmaking.
It's basically a...

Blue indeed.

Despite the admittedly gratuitously extended sex scenes which certainly earned the NC17 rating, BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOR is raw, honest, unflinching, and delicious. The two leads, Lea Seydoux and especially Adele Exarchopoulos give such realistic, powerful, and unforgettable performances that it's impossible to take ones eyes off of them. Ultimately this is a lengthy, indulgent, but brave and heartbreaking work of art that really leaves an indelible impression. One of the very best films of the year. Fascinating, and uncommonly engrossing. Now if only there could be a film like this involving to male lovers and their relationship. I guess I'll have to write that one. (Rated NC17- contains explicit sex and graphic nudity, and some language.)
