Another boring year for these guys. Another year has great acting, a well written script by Mike Leigh and it may not be every ones type of film to watch, but it's still worth a watch to those who are interested in watching the movie.

The story is okay, but perhaps not as great as some of other Mike Leigh's films (Secrets & LIes and the recent Happy-Go-Lucky). However, Lesley Manville gives an outstanding performance. Though she is good in his other films, she really takes it to the limit here. Her performance is worth seeing. Also, Ruth Sheen, who is a mainstay in Leigh's films also shines here. Watch if you appreciate good performances.

Nicht jedes Jahr bringt uns einen neuen Mike Leigh Film. Die Jahre aber, in denen der Brite ein neues Werk fertigstellt, sind mir aber die liebsten! Jedes Mal schenkt er uns ein neues Kapitel der menschlichen Komödie, mit grosser Sympathie und exakter Beobachtungsgabe! "Komödie" ist bei Leigt nicht gleichbedeutend mit "lautem Gelächter", vielmehr dürfen wir uns in seinen Filmen selbst wiedererkennen. Liebenswert und doch auch erbärmlich! Diesmal lernen wir Gerri und Tom kennen, ein Ehepaar aus dem Norden Londons, das seit zig Jahren glücklich verheiratet ist. Glücklich? Du bemerkst das Risiko, dass Leigh hier wagt, denn wer will schon glückliche Ehepaare sehen? Leigh aber zeigt uns weise und liebenswerte Menschen aus der echten Welt! Setting is in London. During the springtime, a doctor advices Janet to seek counseling, Gerri is a counselor. Gerri and an old colleague Mary hang out. Mary visits Tom (who builds motorways) and Gerri. Joe comes home sees his parents together with Mary. Come summertime Ken visits the loving couple. Tanya, Jack, Ken and Mary have lunch together with the couple. Ken tries to express his feelings to Mary. Unfortunately, Mary expresses interest with Joe. When autumn arrives, Joe introduces Katie to his parents. Ronnie, Tom’s brother, whose wife Linda passes away during the winter, is accompanied by his family to have her cremated. Mary invites herself without notifying her friends.
