"Kiki's Delivery Service" leans so heavily into its main character's reasonable aspirations that it's easy to forget this is actually a fantasy movie. Thus making the titular witch of this lovable coming-of-age fairy tale one of Studio Ghibli's most relatable and fully realized protagonists.

This is a sweet natured animated film. It generates a warming sensation through the characters and visuals. It's a breezy watch that's easy to get swept up in.

Hands-down my favorite Miyazaki movie. I was maybe 5 when I first saw it, and now, 14 years later, I still love it.

Hayao the master of Anime

Hayao Miyazaki is like the Steven Spielberg of animated directors.

The story to Kiki's Delivery Service is about a young witch striking out on her own. At her mother's behest, 13-year-old Kiki sets out on a year-long apprenticeship with her black cat in tow. With a shaky command of her broom, she ends up in a charming little coastal town that looks like a cross between the French provincial and San Francisco. Unfortunately, the local hotels have a strict "no witches" policy and the police have taken a dim view of her recent aerial mischief-making. She's saved from the street by a kindly baker's wife, who offers her room and board in exchange for her delivering by broom the baker's wares.

While I still haven't seen Hayao Miyazaki other films yet as I'm slowly checking one out time …

Bewitching and charming

Miyazaki scored his first major box office hit for Studio Ghibli with this utterly charming story of a young witch-wannabe aspiring to find her place in a far-off town. What's particularly amazing about this movie isn't just the flight sequences, which sparkle with imagination and wonder, but how we grow attached to the characters and find ourselves cheering them on. Not just another syrupy kids' movie, KIKI'S DELIVERY SERVICE is also the sort of movie that even grown-ups will find themselves captivated by. This was the first movie to be released under the Disney-Ghibli deal, with an excellent cast of voice actors which include Kirsten Dunst, who provides liveliness and believability as Kiki, Matthew Lawrence as the geeky Tombo, Debbie Reynolds as elderly Madame, and Janeane Garofolo as …
