Historical film based on a play that is based on true events. A personal and tragic story that holds up today. The length of the movie does drag at times, but I still liked most of it. It's what you'd expect from the films made during this time period.

Okay, so the film probably doesn't merit a 1 star rating, but I saw this film when I was in eighth grade, so A) I don't remember much and B) The only thing that I do remember was the fact that I thought it was boring. A very sad film

This film works quite effectively I thought, but it is hard to completely evaluate because the story basis is so sad and interesting to begin with. Unless it was completely terrible I think this story would work even in a lesser film, which I am not sure it is or not. Following there time is fascinating, rather suspenseful and very sad in the end. One strong point for the most part is the acting. Almost everyone acts incredibly well without the utmost authenticity. The problem which hurts the film and causes me to only give it three stars is Millie Perkins as Anne is almost fatal miscasting. If everyone else was not so good she could have sunk the whole film. She makes no attempt at an accent, seems unrealistic, and rather annoying. Besides that it is effective film.
