It tries a little to hard a times, but a young Anna Chlumsky and Macaulay Culkin shine in this family comedy-drama.

When he begins a relationship with a new woman, she lashes out, but her friend Thomas Sennett is always there to help, as well as an English teacher she's trying to impress by joining a summer writing course. This movie started sweet and harmless but then the movie switches gears to wards the end which the ending is upsetting.

This movie came out when I was 11 years old. This is a great summer movie, and I have seen it at least once every summer since 1991. As an adult, I am still drawn to what I was when I was a kid. This movie has you laughing one minute and crying the next. It is a sweet tale about a girl and her friend going through the pains and joys of growing up. Chlumsky and Culkin give two great performances. They are believable kids, and are not too fake or too cute, a trap that many child stars fall into. Dan Aykroyd does a great job as the tuba playing father. I consider this movie a modern classic and a movie that every 11-year-old girl (and former 11-year-old) girl should see.

A sweet and charming film. Both Chlumsky and Culkin are great and lovable. Akyroyd does a good job as the slightly clueless single father of an adolescent daughter. Though sad, it's still a good heartwarming film.

This is an incredibly sweet film all the way through to a heart-breaking finale. You will get misty if you haven't seen it and you still may even if you know what's coming. It's a family film with an air of maturity.

I remember this as the first movie that made me cry. It is pretty entertaining and I think I saw it twice. I think the seafood joke was gross. see? really not that much here, unless you like Bee Movies or something. What ever happened to the girl actor anyway?
