Not an effective musical. Anna Leonowens (Deborah Kerr) is a teacher who moves to Thailand and meets a n eccentric confident King Of Siam (Yul Brynner). Most of the humor were wonderful but the screenplay often redundant and irritating. Lacks character development for the background characters and history of the king's illness was not exposed. Yul Brynner was just exceptional here and wardrobe was gorgeous. Set pieces were elegant and pacing suffice. Has some timeless songs, themes of slavery, loyalty to a girl and power, King and I is a worthy watch for musical fans.

Everything about this movie was great... except the obvious racism.

Classic musical. Story and music are memorable.

A magical film and a rare musical that doesn't sacrifice story to cram as many songs as possible into its plot. The acting is balanced and true and, of course, the soundtrack is one of the best musical soundtracks of all time.

A pleasant enough musical. Yul Brynner sound like such a strange choice for a musical, but it works out pretty good. It will never make my top list, but anyone who enjoys musicals should check it out.

The king and I is a fairly overdone musical. The music I did not think was that good, and the story as expected is nothing special either. The acting is all overdone for the most part and everything is a bit forced, as in the ending comes on a little too quickly. That all would not matter if the music was really really good but it is not, it is just good. Oscar Win Best Actor Yul Brenner 2/5- I like Brenner as an actor and was better the same year in Anastasia and especially the Ten Commandments. He does not sing in any great way nor does he act in any great way. He is fine and somewhat humorous but he is only okay at best. He dances, sings and acts but is not overly great in any of the parts.
