"Falling Down" by Yojimbo

With direction from king of the hacks Joel Schumacher and starring Michael Douglas, I really shouldn't like this film but it is easily Douglas' best role. Normally I find him arrogant, self obsessed and utterly unsympathetic. Here, as an average Joe suffering a mental break, feeling under siege from the modern world he is actually pretty damn good. He adeptly walks the tightrope between garnering sympathy for his inability to cope with where his life has taken him and the underlying menace of his psychotic tendencies with genuine subtlety. Unfortunately this subtlety is lost in Schumacher's direction which schizophrenically veers between showing him as an ordinary man doing the things we'd all like to do once in a while and showing him as a dangerous lunatic. A former defense worker Bill Foster got laid off a month prior to his “falling down” of reality. On a sweaty day where traffic wasn’t moving, he leaves the car and decides to his family. He gets cheated by a greedy Korean, almost got mugged by Latino’s, got frustrated at a misinterpretation of a burger, verbally abused by a rich old club member, annoying stranger impatiently waiting to call in a phone booth and was about to be abused by a deranged store owner. An LAPD Sergeant on his last day, Prendergast (Robert Duvall), tracks down the mystery vigilante. Some of the best lines from this picture: Foster – “Can anybody tell me what's wrong with this picture?” “God bless the working stiff!”

Watch it when your older so you'll understand more

When I was younger this was definately not my favorite movie and I didn't like Michael Douglas at all. But this summer when this movie came once again from TV and I had nothing better to do I watched it for the third time and changed my mind. First time when I saw this movie my reaction was numb and I felt weird. I thought what a waste of time and I'll never make the same mistake to watch it again. Now that I'm older and "wiser" I understand the story much better. I even laughed many times during this movie. Well, here's the plot explaned by me with my bad English: There's this middle aged guy who sits in a hot car on a hot day and is waiting and waiting in a traffic line which isn't moving anywhere.
