Bateman plays an anti-hero type of character who balances dry wit, a crass mouth, and a small bit of cynicism while avoiding too much sympathy. The concoction comes off right, making his motive for joining the spelling bee seem justified with the character. Most all the jokes gave me a laugh. The funniest parts involve his competitive nature with the child contestants and his friendship with one of them. Solid comedy.

An adult who discovering a loophole in the spelling bee rules - will allow him to exact revenge by entering and making a run for the championship that eluded him years before. This movie is really funny and Jason Bateman and that kid in the movie that I forgot his name but they both of them made this movie more good for me.
