"Kick Ass 2" by Yojimbo

Ordinary High School kid Dave decides to revive the career of his crime fighting alter ego, but when Hit Girl refuses to break a promise to lead a normal life he seeks like-minded hero wannabes to patrol the streets. I am a huge fan of the first film so to say Kick Ass 2 was a disappointment is an understatement of the highest order. It's one of those sequels that manages to completely miss the point of the original; gone is the perfectly judged blend of cartoon violence and sly, witty black humour. Instead we have a cross between a frat boy gross out comedy of the most witless kind and a particularly weak episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. The violence is ugly, the humour tasteless, the plot paper thin and it completely lacks any of the winning charm and faux naivete of the first …

Kick-Ass 2 review

Bloodier, more action/eye candy but less filling. Dave Lizewski wants to partner with Mindy Macready. Marcus, Mindy's new guardian and friend of her fathers, tells Mindy to stop fighting. Chris transforms into MF while Dave joins Justice Forever, led by Colonel Stars and Stripes, Battle Guy (Dave's friend, Marty), Dr. Gravity, Insect Man, Night-Bitch, and the parents of a missing child named Tommy. Chris forms his own team. Some wonderful lines: "My dad wasn't afraid of living." - Mindy. "But this is the real world." "This is your life you've got to live it." - Dave. "Try to have fun, otherwise what’s the point?" - Stars & Stripes. Themes of bullying, finding your identity, friendship, teamwork and acceptance were well exemplified. Its low-lights were the lack of focus on …

The first Kick-Ass movie was a pretty big success. You could almost say it garnered a cult following, because so many loved it for its exceptional action and humor, the different take on superheroes.
I have mixed feelings about Kick-Ass. Sometimes I loved it, sometimes I had severe problems with it. For example, the action was filmed brilliantly by Matthew Vaughn and Chloe Grace Moretz stole the show as Hit-Girl, other times I cringed at the sight of children being beat up.

So what did I think of Kick-Ass 2? I think it's exactly like the first one, only just a little bit less enjoyable.
It has exactly the same things to love and to hate, it has the immature humor, over-the-top action and wanna-be superhero characters, but has more violence against children and again scenes that made …

Review: Kick-Ass 2

I'll say right away that I think the world of Kick-Ass. I adore it. I adore the relationship between Hit Girl and Big Daddy. I adore the visceral comic tone is establishes and sustains. I adore the cleverness of the script and the substantial richness of the characters. I adore Matthew Vaughn and his wonderful vision he brought to the table. There's two things that the movie earns - its title and its R-rating. If there's one flaw that inhabits the existence of that film, it's that it developed sequel sickness. Yes, of course, Kick-Ass 2 was made, and Jeff Wadlow of all people was hired to write and direct the film.

The central problem with the film is that, yes, it's bloody and visceral and energetic - but it's not fun. It lacks the vibrant spark that made the first film work. What …

'Kick-Ass 2' Kicks Less Ass

Unknown - wrote on 08/18/2013

'Kick-Ass 2' is an underwhelming sequel. When compared to the first, it's not up to par in all areas. The best reason I can find for the inconsistency is the fact that there is a new writer/director at the helm, Jeff Wadlow. The story is a true continuation, with the characters and comic-book style presented in the same fashion as the previous, but Wadlow doesn't carry over those qualities that made 'Kick-Ass' more substantial and completely enjoyable. That perfect balance of reality, fantasy, bloody violence, crudeness, humor, and heart is gone here. Instead, Wadlow emphasizes the crudeness and the violence by taking away the reality entirely and adding in many unneeded gross gags. There's also no consequence to the violence this time. Mintz-Plasse's villain 'The Motherfucker' …

Good, but not quite as good as the original

This is a really good movie. I currently have it on number 14 out of the 24 movies that I have on my best of 2013 list. It fell just a bit short of the first Kick-ass to me, which i loved. Kick-ass and hit-girl were good, although I could have lived without Hit-girl trying to fit in and be a normal high school student for about half the movie. Jim Carrey's character, who I worried might be a distraction, was pretty good in a reasonably small role. Christopher Mintz-Plasse's character, the mother-fuc@er, was a bit to over the top for my liking. One of the things that I did like, they kept the score pretty consistent with the first Kick-ass movie. A good action movie, really good actually, it's funny, just not quite as good as the original. The original is so good though, that's a tough …
