Although thought-provoking and undeniably tense, I never really found myself as interested in "The Constant Gardener" as I wanted to.

A bold film that finds a humanitarian chord that rings most powerfully. Even better than the strong performances is the film's unwavering portrayal of the horrific crimes against the African people. The film is, at first, slow-building, but becomes a coherent and intriguingly poignant portrait of a wartorn nation by the end.

A british diplomat uncovers a conspiracy involving corruption within pharmaceutical corporations performing illegal trials in africa while investigating the death of his wife. This beautifully shot but ultimately rather dull drama is typical of the kind of worthy but sterile and unaffecting cinema Fiennes has made his bread and butter. It's very well made, intelligent and well acted by the fine cast of respected thesps, but it's overly talky and uninvolving in the same way as many of the cold war films of the 70s and 80s (probably because it is based on a novel by John Le Carre who was responsible for a lot of them.) Interesting but never compelling, although the heartfelt ending is worth persevering for.

A British diplomat Justin Quayle (Ralph Fiennes) meets and falls in love with outspoken humanitarian Tessa (Rachel Weisz). Tessa looses a baby and asks Sandy, British High Commissioner, a favor. She keeps her work from Justin. Unfortunately, the relationship between Justin and Tessa was unconvincing since it was rushed. You also have a secretive wife who could have been more honest with her husband. The picture shows the situation and beauty of Africa. Pace of the story picks up when Tessa passes away mysteriously. Camera direction was astounding and performances very solid. Constant Gardener’s intent and creation was good, if only some parts were edited to make it better.

I didn't like it, but I didn't dislike it. But here's my burning question: In this movie about the crimes against the African people, why are the 5 meatiest roles for white actors?

An excellent top-notch thriller with one of the best performances by Ralph Fiennes, as well as yet another beautifully executed performance by Academy Award winner Rachel Weisz. Bill Nighy also does wonders as part of the supporting cast in what many critics called one of the best films of 2005. A chaotic, yet hopefully driven thriller, I would recommend this film to anyone.

It takes awhile to get going, but stick with it. The longer it goes on, the more intriguing it gets. Ralph Fiennes is excellent, as is the supporting cast. Dwell on it after you've watched, and it will make an impact.
