Otis "Bad" Blake (Jeff Bridges) is an old country singer who fell for a journalist with a son named Jean Craddock (Maggie Gyllenhaal). A popular country singer who idolizes Bad named Tommy Sweet (Colin Farrell) finds ways for Blake to earn some money. Blake’s friend Wayne (Robert Duvall) informs him about a support group to help him with his alcohol problem. Bridges wonderful portrayal was rewarded by different the Academy Awards, Los Angeles Film Critics Association, Broadcast Film Critics Association, Golden Globe Awards, Screen Actors Guild and the Independent Spirit Awards. I enjoyed the cinematography and locations, not a big country fan but it was worth watching. Its subjects touch from responsibility, to choices and redemption. Maggie Gyllenhaal acting was solid here as …

Jeff Bridges, Enough Said

“Crazy Heart” is one of those rare character based films which allow you to go on a roller coaster ride of emotions side by side with its main players. Admittedly, this film will be remembered more for Jeff Bridges Oscar winning performance than for its story. The story has been done before in other films, but a performance of this calibre has not been achieved by Jeff Bridges before and is a performance that will be remembered for years to come. Bad Blake (Bridges) is a washed up country singer who’d life practises are not to be admired. He used to be great, but nowadays he has been reduced to performing in bars and bowling alleys. His life starts to turn around when he meets Jean (Maggie Gyllenhaal), a single mum journalist from Santa Fe who wants to write a story about Bad …

Crazy Heart is this year's best tale of redemption. It's a story you've seen before - former success hits rock bottom and struggles to right themselves, but rarely has it been executed as well as this film. This is mainly due to Jeff Bridges, who gives a career best performance as Bad Blake, an aging alcoholic has-been struggling to survive. There's a good cast here, and it's pretty sweet seeing Robert Duvall as well, given his similar role in Tender Mercies so long ago.

I also have to say what helps this film is its music. As I said redemption stories are nothing new, but country music is the one genre of entertainment that seems to grasp this concept so well. Not only does the music help tell the story, but Bridges' performances make everything more realistic. It would be awesome …

Crazy Heart

Jeff Bridges reminded me exactly of Kris Kristofferson in this film by the way he looked. His personality was more of the Waylon Jennings type. The movie is based on a novel and the writer/director decided to use this source material after not being able to get the rights to the Merle Haggard. So many inspirations for this character and they were all nicely blended. Overall, the acting was great. But the music handpicked by T Bone Burnett was fitting too. Colin Farrell was a little weird as the "country star" (who the novelist based on Conway Twitty, yet Colin was of course so different, more like a Keith Urban).

It's not only about country music, but about redemption in a non-cheesy way. Jeff Bridges' character (Bad) had to reach several emotional truths and a breaking point in …
